21. Aspects of Gene Expression Profiling in Disease and Health
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to in various ways explore protein expression in human normal tissue and in cancer and to apply that knowledge in biomarker discovery. In Paper I the prognostic significance of RNA-binding motif protein 3 (RBM3) is explored in malignant melanoma. LÄS MER
22. Novel Circulating and Tissue Biomarkers for Small Intestine Neuroendocrine Tumors and Lung Carcinoids
Sammanfattning : Small intestine neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) and lung carcinoids (LCs) are relatively indolent tumors, which originate from neuroendocrine (NE) cells of the diffuse NE system. Metastases can spread before diagnosis. Thus, potential cures become unavailable, which entitles new biomarker development. LÄS MER
23. Studies on Tissue Factor with Focus on Cell Signaling and Cancer
Sammanfattning : This thesis have explored the functions of the protein Tissue Factor (TF), which together with its ligand coagulation factor VII/VIIa (FVII/FVIIa) forms a proteolytic complex that functions in initiation of blood coagulation and activation of cell signaling. In paper I, the mechanisms behind the observation that TF/FVIIa signaling protects cells from apoptosis were further investigated. 24. Bronchial Carcinoids
Sammanfattning : Bronchial carcinois are subdivided into typical and atypical. Atypical carcinoids are more malignant, but typical carcinoids may also influence survival. In the present study immunohistochemistry was performed to identify prognostic markets in patients with typical bronchial carcinoids. LÄS MER
25. Characterization of Male Breast Cancer : From Molecule to Clinical Outcome
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate different aspects of male breast cancer (MBC), and to compare these with findings in female breast cancer (FBC). In paper I, a population–based study was performed to investigate possible differences in treatment and outcome between MBC and FBC patients. LÄS MER
