  1. 1. Kidney Hyaluronan : Regulatory Aspects During Different States of Body Hydration, Nephrogenesis & Diabetes

    Författare :Louise Rügheimer; Peter Hansell; Cecilia Johnsson; Örjan Källskog; Mats Rundgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Physiology; hyaluronan; kidney; dehydration; hydration; diabetes; nephrogenesis; renomedullary interstitial cells; CD44; hyaluronan synthase; hyaluronidase; vasopressin; nitric oxide; prostaglandins; glucocorticoids; angiotensin II; diuresis; lymph vessel; podoplanin; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The kidney regulates the excretion of water and electrolytes, which maintains homeostasis and enables control of arterial blood pressure. Hyaluronan, a large negatively charged interstitial glucosaminoglycan, is heterogeneously distributed within the kidney, primarily found in the medulla. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Regulation of Hyaluronan Synthesis and Signaling via CD44 in Cancer

    Författare :Merima Mehić; Paraskevi Heldin; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Liliana Schaefer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hyaluronan; CD44; TGFβ; PDGF-BB; cancer; signaling; hyaluronan synthase; epithelial-mesenchymal transition; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan is a ubiquitous glycosaminoglycan which is an important constituent of the extracellular matrix (ECM). In addition to organizing the extracellular matrix and regulating tissue homeostasis, hyaluronan, by binding to its main cell surface receptor CD44, is involved in intracellular signaling pathways regulating major cellular processes during development, wound healing, inflammation and cancer. 3. 3. About hyaluronan in the hypertrophic heart : studies on coordinated regulation of extracellular matrix signalling

    Författare :Urban Hellman; Anders Waldenström; Stellan Mörner; Anna Engström-Laurent; Lena Jonasson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hyaluronan; hyaluronan synthases; gene expression; extracellular matrix; cardiac hypertrophy; rat wistar; male ; cardiomyocytes; growth factors; fibroblasts; microvesicles; exosomes; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Background. Myocardial hypertrophy is a risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Independent of underlying disease, the cardiac muscle strives in different ways to compensate for an increased workload. This remodelling of the heart includes changes in the extracellular matrix which will affect systolic and diastolic cardiac function. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Importance of Hyaluronan-CD44 Signaling in Tumor Progression : Crosstalk with TGFβ and PDGF-BB Signaling

    Författare :Helena Porsch; Paraskevi Heldin; Véronique Orian-Rousseau; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :extracellular matrix; growth factor; hyaluronan synthase; hyaluronidase; epithelial-mesenchymal transition; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : In order for solid tumors to metastasize, tumor cells must acquire the ability to invade the surrounding tissue and intravasate into blood- or lymph vessels, survive in the circulation and then extravasate at a distant site to form a new tumor. Overexpression of the glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan, and its adhesion receptor CD44, correlate with breast cancer progression. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Importance of Hyaluronan Metabolism and Signalling in Tumour Progression

    Författare :Berit Bernert; Paraskevi Heldin; Peter Prehm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hyaluronan; CD44; cancer; growth factors;

    Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan, an unbranched glycosaminoglycan of the extracellular matrix, has an amazingly simple structure. Initially thought to fulfil only hydrating and space-filling functions in tissues, evidence generated during the past decades shows that hyaluronan is involved in intriguingly complex signalling events in health and disease.
