16. Transcriptional patterns in inflammatory disease
Sammanfattning : In the studies this thesis is based upon, microarrays were applied to profilemRNA populations in biological samples to gain insights into transcriptionalpatterns and their relation to inflammatory disease.Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease, which leads todegradation of cartilage and bone. 17. Signalomics : unsupervised and global strategies to explore mechanisms of radioresistence in lung cancer cells
Sammanfattning : To combat lung cancer (LC) which is the number one cancer associated killer, a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and targeted agents are currently used. The main subtype of LC, Non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) unfortunately responds poorly to conventional radiotherapy (RT) for reasons yet only partly understood. LÄS MER
18. Stress and immune signaling in a Drosophila tumor model
Sammanfattning : Cancer cells contain multiple biological alterations that allow them to escape from host surveillance mechanisms. One of the mechanisms that play an essential role in host protection against tumor growth is immunity. LÄS MER
19. Signaling and transcriptional regulation of antimicrobial peptide genes in Drosophila melanogaster
Sammanfattning : Insects rely solely on innate immune reactions for protection against infect-ing microbes in their environment. In Drosophila, one major defense mechanism is the production of a battery of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). LÄS MER
20. Cytokine induced airway hyperreactivity characterized in an in-vitro model of asthma
Sammanfattning : Asthma is a chronic disorder of the lower airways, characterized by inflammation and hyperreactivity. Pro-inflammatory cytokines like tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) are known to play important roles in the pathogenesis, but our knowledge how these cytokines contribute to the development of airway hyperreactivity is limited.
