  1. 1. Antimicrobial peptides in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory conditions Preclinical studies of mechanism of action, efficacy, and safety

    Detta är en avhandling från Göteborgs universitet

    Författare :Camilla Björn; Medicinteknik.; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2016]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antimicrobial peptides; AMPs; innate immunity; infection; inflammation; mechanism of action; efficacy; safety; antimicrobial resistance; antibiotic resistance; Antimicrobial peptides;

    Sammanfattning : The rapid emergence of antibiotic-resistant microbes worldwide and the urgent need of new antimicrobial agents have stimulated interest in antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) as new therapeutics for treatment of infectious diseases. AMPs are present in all living species and constitute an important part of the innate immune system in multicellular organisms, including humans. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Antimicrobial activity of human seminal plasma and seminal plasma proteins

    Detta är en avhandling från Lund University

    Författare :Anneli Edström; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2010]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; semenogelin; antibacterial peptides; antifungal peptides; seminal plasma; antimicrobial peptides; vaginal pH; beta-microseminoprotein; peptides;

    Sammanfattning : Seminal plasma is semen without the spermatozoa. Human seminal plasma is a complex mixture of secretions from the sex accessory glands, mainly the seminal vesicles and the prostate. Seminal plasma has high protein content and it also contains ions, sugars and low molecular weight components. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Development of antimicrobial peptides : Methodological aspects, design, synthesis and evaluation of a new class of antimicrobial peptides

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Department of Neurochemistry, Stockholm University

    Författare :Marie Danielsson; Stockholms universitet.; [2012]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Sammanfattning : A new protective group for the indole nitrogen of the amino acid tryptophan, the Boc-sarcosinoyl-sarcosinolyl (Boc-Sar-Sar) is described. This protective group shows good stability to the reaction conditions used in solid phase peptide synthesis and can be incorporated into the peptide as Fmoc-Trp(Boc-Sar-Sar)-OH. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Interaction Between Microgels and Oppositely Charged Peptides

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Helena Bysell; Uppsala universitet.; [2009]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antimicrobial peptides; binding; cationic peptides; confocal microscopy; deswelling; distribution; electrostatic; homopolypeptides; microgels; peptides; release; swelling; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry; farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Lightly cross-linked polyelectrolyte microgels are materials with interesting properties for a range of applications. For instance, the volume of these particles can be drastically changed in response to pH, ionic strength, temperature, or the concentration of specific ions and metabolites. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Vascular actions of antimicrobial peptides

    Detta är en avhandling från Cristina Ciornei, [email protected], Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Lund Univerity Hospital, Lund, Sweden

    Författare :Cristina Ciornei; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2004]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; vascular smooth muscle; sepsis; nitric oxide; human antimicrobial peptide LL-37; Antimicrobial peptides; lipopolysaccharide; bactericidal permeability-increasing protein;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis focuses on the vascular effects of antimicrobial peptides especially mechanisms involving the vasodilator nitric oxide (NO), which is released from the blood vessel wall during inflammatory conditions such as sepsis. Bacterial lipopolysaccharide stimulates the expression of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), which increases the NO production in vascular tissues or cultured vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC). LÄS MER
