  1. 6. Immune Regulation During Malaria Infection

    Författare :Helena Helmby; Edvard Pearce; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Malaria is the largest parasitic disease in the world and is caused by the protozoon Plasmodium. The most severe form in humans is caused by Plasmodium falciparum. Immunity to malaria involves both cell-mediated and humoral responses and develops slowly over a period of ten to fifteen years, requiring repeated infections. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Regulation of apoptosis in human multiple myeloma

    Författare :Helena Spets; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; apoptosis; multiple myeloma; IL-6; Bcl-2; Fas; dexamethasone; IGF-I; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple myeloma (MM) is a clonal expansion of malignant plasmablasts-plasma cells in the bone marrow. MM is slowly proliferating and an increased resistance to apoptosis may be crucial for the tumor progression. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Regulation of steroidogenesis : cAMP-dependent transcription in adrenocortical cells

    Författare :Marit Bakke; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :steroid hydroxylases; cyclic AMP; gene regulation; steroidogenesis; adrenalcortex;

    Sammanfattning : Optimal steroid hormone output from the adrenal cortex depends on the peptide hormone ACTH which elicits its effect by increasing the intracellular levels of the second messenger cAMP, and a subsequent activation of the cAMP-dependent protein kinase. An important aspect of ACTH action is the ability of this hormone to increase transcription of a group of genes that encodes the steroid hydroxylases, enzymes that catalyze the conversion of cholesterol to biologically active steroids. 4. 9. Studies on the regulation of the Napin napA promoter by ABI3, bZIP and bHLH transcription factors

    Författare :Nathalie Martin; Lars Rask; Ines Ezcurra; Olof Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecular biology; transcription gene regulation; plant seed maturation; seed storage protein; ABA; ABI3; bZIP; bHLH; Brassica napus; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The B3-domain transcription factor ABI3 is a major regulator of gene expression of seed maturation during Arabidopsis embryogenesis. The napA gene encodes for a Brassica napus 2S storage protein specifically expressed in the embryo during the early and mid-maturation phase (MAT program). LÄS MER

  5. 10. Regulation of chloroplast development during the greening process

    Författare :Yan Ji; Åsa Strand; Eevi Rintamäki; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; light response; anterograde signalling; plastid transcription; chloroplast development; photosynthesis; bZIP; PEP complex; de-etiolation; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Upon light exposure, the expression of one-third of the nuclear-encoded genes is changing, including genes encoding many chloroplast-targeted proteins responsible for the initiation of plastid transcription and the establishment of photosynthesis. The control of the nuclear-encoded genes involved in the development of chloroplast is referred to as anterograde signalling. LÄS MER
