  1. 1. Pharmacometric Models to Improve Treatment of Tuberculosis

    Författare :Elin M Svensson; Mats O Karlsson; Maria C Kjellsson; Ulrika S H Simonsson; N. L’Ntshotsholé (Shasha) Jumbe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; population approach; nonlinear mixed-effects models; multidrug-resistant tuberculosis; bedaquiline; antiretroviral; drug-drug interactions; time-to-event; albumin; Klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Tuberculosis (TB) is the world’s most deadly infectious disease and causes enormous public health problems. The comorbidity with HIV and the rise of multidrug-resistant TB strains impede successful therapy through drug-drug interactions and the lack of efficient second-line treatments. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Benefits of Non-Linear Mixed Effect Modeling and Optimal Design : Pre-Clinical and Clinical Study Applications

    Författare :Charles Ernest II; Andrew Hooker; Mats Karlsson; Bart Ploeger; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacometrics; optimal design; nonlinear mixed effects models; population models; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Despite the growing promise of pharmaceutical research, inferior experimentation or interpretation of data can inhibit breakthrough molecules from finding their way out of research institutions and reaching patients. This thesis provides evidence that better characterization of pre-clinical and clinical data can be accomplished using non-linear mixed effect modeling (NLMEM) and more effective experiments can be conducted using optimal design (OD). 3. 3. Simplifying complex models : Application of modeling tools in exposure assessment of organic pollutants

    Författare :Emma Undeman; Michael McLachlan; Kathrin Fenner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mass balance model; environmental modeling; exposure modeling; bioaccumulation; organic contaminants; emission estimate; plant model; steady state; poly parameter linear free energy relationship; PPLFER; ecosystem susceptibility; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Thousands of chemicals are used in society, but the exposure to humans and other organisms has been measured only for a small number of compounds. Modeling tools constitute low-cost and effective alternatives to measurements for the assessment of exposure. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Novel Statistical Methods in Quantitative Genetics : Modeling Genetic Variance for Quantitative Trait Loci Mapping and Genomic Evaluation

    Författare :Xia Shen; Örjan Carlborg; Lars Rönnegård; William Hill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; statistical genetics; quantitative trait loci; genome-wide association study; genomic selection; genetic variance; hierarchical generalized linear model; linear mixed model; random effect; heteroscedastic effects model; variance-controlling genes; Complex Systems – Microdata Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis develops and evaluates statistical methods for different types of genetic analyses, including quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis, genome-wide association study (GWAS), and genomic evaluation. The main contribution of the thesis is to provide novel insights in modeling genetic variance, especially via random effects models. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Quantitative Assessment of Intelligent Transport Systems for Road Freight Transport

    Författare :Gideon Mbiydzenyuy; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transport telematic services; Assessment; Freight transport; Quantitative; Modeling; Decision support systems;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, methods for using computer-based models as support tools for assessing Transport Telematic Services (TTSs) are studied. Such assessments provide one way to understand how TTSs can address problems caused by transportation, such as accidents, emissions, and energy consumption. LÄS MER
