1. Studies on the Non-covalent Interactions (Stereoelectronics, Stacking and Hydrogen Bonding) in the Self-assembly of DNA and RNA
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on ten publications (Papers I-X). The phosphodiester backbone makes DNA or RNA to behave as polyelectrolyte, the pentose sugar gives the flexibility, and the aglycones promote the self-assembly or the ligand-binding process. LÄS MER
2. Energy Storage Systems in Electrical Distribution Grids : Analysis and implementations of use cases for service stacking
Sammanfattning : This Ph.D. thesis investigates the possibility of using energy storage systems for multiple services by implementing service stacking, with special emphasis on congestion management in distribution grids. LÄS MER
3. Stacking Faults in Silicon Carbide
Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis comprises a series of theoretical studies on various stacking faults in silicon carbide polytypes, based on first-principles density functional modelling, which lead to a detailed insight into general electronic properties of stacking disordered system. This work is largely motivated by the discovery in 1999 by ABB Corporate Research of the electronic degradation phenomenon in 4H-SiC p-i-n diodes. LÄS MER
4. Some Aspects of Physicochemical Properties of DNA and RNA
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on nine research publications (I – IX) on structure and reactivity of RNA vis-à-vis DNA. The DNA and RNA are made of flexible pentose sugar units, polyelectrolytic phosphodiester backbone, and heterocyclic nucleobases. DNA stores our genetic code, whereas RNA is involved both in protein biosynthesis and catalysis. LÄS MER
5. Bioenergy from Swedish forests : A Study of extraction methods, quality and effects for forest owners
Sammanfattning : The forest constitutes a very important element of renewable natural resources and makes a significant contribution to the Swedish bioeconomy. Biofuels are Sweden’s largest source of energy; of all the energy we use, 32% comes from biofuels, and of this approximately 85% comes from the forest and the forestry sector. LÄS MER
