6. The Female Reader at the Round Table : Religion and Women in Three Contemporary Arthurian Texts
Sammanfattning : Stretching back at least a thousand years, Arthurian literature constitutes a vigorous and varied genre that attracts scholarly attention. In a close reading of three modern Arthurian texts, Mary Stewart’s Merlin trilogy, The Crystal Cave (1970), The Hollow Hills (1973), The Last Enchantment (1979), Marion Bradley’s The Mists of Avalon (1982), and Stephen Lawhead’s Pendragon Cycle, Taliesin (1987), Merlin (1988), Arthur (1989), Pendragon (1994), and Grail (1997), this study focuses on the intersection between two of the genre’s motifs: religion and gender. 7. Samtalets möjligheter : Om litteratursamtal och litteraturreception i skolan
Sammanfattning : The objective of this dissertation is literature discussion as a learning activity in school. The aim is to examine the conditions under which literature discussions may help students to develop their reception of a commonly read text, and to examine whether, and how, the discussions may provide the students with opportunities to learn more about, or to develop specific attitudes or perspectives towards, literary reading in general. 9. "Wahrscheinlich sollte man reden miteinander" : Die narrativen Modi als Mittel der Gestaltung von Ehe und Beziehungsproblemen in Martin Walsers Novelle "Ein fliehendes Pferd"
Sammanfattning : This thesis is centrally concerned both to investigate the depiction of marriage and relation-ship problems in Martin Walser's 'Ein fliehendes Pferd' ('A Runaway Horse') while at the same time giving a careful account of narrative techniques (notably free indirect discourse) and shedding light on their function. In terms of method, the two-fold aim entails on the one hand a thoroughgoing examination of prior material on the novella and on the other a critical discussion of certain defining models of narrative theory – whereby concepts such as narra-tive situation, modus, perspective and focalization are subjected to fresh scrutiny.
