  1. 1. Influence of depth of anesthesia on postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) and inflammatory markers

    Författare :Pether Jildenstål; Narinder Rawal; Lars Berggren; Jan Jakobsson; Johan Reader; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Postoperative cognitive dysfunction; minor and major surgery; anaesthesia; depth of anaesthesia monitoring; auditory evoked potential; AAI; inflammatory marker; Medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Patients may suffer from various forms of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD). In most cases, the impact on cognitive function is relatively transient but POCD can sometimes be long-lasting (> 1 year). Studies showing that up to one in four patients with known risk factors are affected by some form of cognitive loss. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Myopia control and peripheral vision

    Författare :Petros Papadogiannis; Linda Lundström; Peter Unsbo; Nicola Logan; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; myopia; peripheral vision; psychophysics;

    Sammanfattning : The rapid rise in myopia prevalence has caused an urgent need for effectivemyopia control interventions. This thesis investigates the role of theperipheral optics of the human eye in myopia progression. It was initiallybelieved that the axial elongation of the myopic eye is caused only by thedefocus signals presented to the central retina. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Fibre Bragg Gratings : Characterization, Realization and Simulation

    Författare :Ingemar Petermann; Ari Friberg; Sten Helmfrid; Morten Ibsen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bragg gratings; optical fibres; optical fibre components; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The main topic of this thesis is realization and characterization of fibre Bragg gratings. A novel versatile grating fabrication technique is developed and a number of gratings are realized, showing the potential of the system. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Algorithmic discovery, development and personalized selection of higher-order drug cocktails : A label-free live-cell imaging & secretomics approach

    Författare :Efthymia Chantzi; Mats G Gustafsson; Ulf Hammerling; Andreas Bender; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; drug combination discovery and development; personalized pharmacotherapy; higher-order drug combination analysis; quantitative label-free live-cell imaging; secretomics; cell-cell communication; deep learning; convolutional neural networks; data mining; MapReduce; resampling; generalized highest single agent; COMBImageDL; COMBSecretomics; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Pharmacology; Farmakologi; Engineering Science; Teknisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : An upward trend in clinical pharmacology is the use of multiple drugs to combat complex and co-occurring diseases due to better efficacy, decreased toxicity and reduced risk of evolving resistance. Despite high late-stage attrition rates and the need for multi drug treatments, most drug discovery and development efforts are still mainly focused on new one-size-fits-all monotherapies. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Toward Next-generation Data Centers : Principles of Software-Defined “Hardware” Infrastructures and Resource Disaggregation

    Författare :Amir Roozbeh; Dejan Kostic; Gerald Q. Maguire Jr.; Fetahi Wuhib; Boris Grot; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cloud computing; next-generation data centers; resource disaggregation; TCO; last level cache; Informations- och kommunikationsteknik; Information and Communication Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The cloud is evolving due to additional demands introduced by new technological advancements and the wide movement toward digitalization. Therefore, next-generation data centers (DCs) and clouds are expected (and need) to become cheaper, more efficient, and capable of offering more predictable services. LÄS MER
