  1. 1. Flexographic Post-Printing of Corrugated Board : Contact Mechanics and Print Quality

    Författare :Erik Hallberg Hofstrand; Magnus Lestelius; Peter Rättö; Astrid Odeberg Glasenapp; D. Steven Keller; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flexography; Corrugated board; Post-printing; Contact mechanics; Print quality; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : As the corrugated board industry strives to produce products with a higher print quality in the converting stage, there is a need for a greater understanding of the factors influencing the final print quality and how we perceive the print. In this work, a method for quantifying the print quality of printed corrugated board is presented as well as methods that quantitatively characterize the mechanical interaction between the printing form and the corrugated board in the printing nip. Sammanfattning : Each day, we are confronted with a large amount of more or less important information that we have to consider, and even in our digital society we need paper for communication, documentation and education. Much of the paper we use or are confronted by in our daily life, such as newspapers, books and packages, contains printed images or texts, and the appearance of both the print and the supporting surface is important. 4. 4. Water-based Flexographic Printing on Polymer-coated Board

    Författare :Maria Rentzhog; Mark Rutland; Joseph Aspler; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis comprises three studies dealing with water-based flexography on polymer-coated boards, which have been presented in the five papers included at the end of the thesis. The first study (covered in three papers) presents results from characterisation of a matrix of water-based inks with respect to their rheology, surface tension, wetting, and fulltone printing performance on PE-coated board. 5. 5. Where did the ink go? : The effect of liquid absorption on ink distribution in flexography

    Författare :Sofia Thorman; Li Yang; Magnus Lestelius; Martti Toivakka; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flexographic printing; print mottle; ink trapping; absorbency; absorption non-uniformity; water-interference mottle; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The appearance of a print is affected by the individual ink layers. If the ink is unevenly distributed on the substrate it lowers the quality. This thesis puts focus on how the liquid absorbency of a coated substrate impacts on the ink distribution in flexographic printing. LÄS MER
