16. Light-Induced Yellowing of High-Yield Pulps. The Effect of Acetylation
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a contribution to the understanding of the mechanism of photoyellowing of high-yield pulps. It also gives some general information about the reactivity of different functional groups in lignin towards acetic anhydride. LÄS MER
17. Enzymatic Synthesis of Functional Polyesters
Sammanfattning : Enzymes are successfully employed in the synthesis of different types of polymers. Candida antarctica lipase B is a highly efficient catalyst for the synthesis of polyesters by ring opening polymerization. ω-Pentadecalactone is an interesting lactone due to the unique proprieties of its polymer (poly-pentadecalactone). 18. Knee function, Physical Activity and Perceived Health after Meniscectomy in the Middle-aged
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to explore the impact of meniscal injury and meniscectomy on joint and muscle function, physical activity and perceived health in middle-age subjects and to evaluate the effect of a functional exercise program. Male and female post meniscectomy patients participated in Studies I-IV (n=45 in Studies I-III, n=99 in Study IV) and Study IV also included 94 controls. LÄS MER
19. Membrane-bound proteins : Characterization, evolution, and functional analysis
Sammanfattning : Alpha-helical transmembrane proteins are important components of many essential cell processes including signal transduction, transport of molecules across membranes, protein and membrane trafficking, and structural and adhesion activities, amongst others. Their involvement in critical networks makes them the focus of interest in investigating disease pathways, as candidate drug targets, and in evolutionary analyses to identify homologous protein families and possible functional activities. 20. Functional and Modular As=C and P=C Group Motifs
Sammanfattning : This work focuses on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application projections of low-coordinated heavy pnictogen-containing (described by the generic letter E, hence E=C) phosphaalkenes (P=C) and arsaalkenes (As=C), with emphasis on the E=C group motifs. The work aims to understand their functional and modular character, reactivity, and potential applications by stabilizing, isolating, and characterizing these species in low-coordination environments.
