1. Polyelectrolytes on Surfaces and their Complexes with Surfactants, Thermodynamics versus kinetics
Sammanfattning : The interfacial properties of polyelectrolytes, mainly cationic with various content of amphiphilic groups, and their complexes with an oppositely charged surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), have been investigated using time-resolved ellipsometry. This thesis focuses on the kinetics and reversibility aspects of polymer adsorption and the control of the adsorption by regulating the electrostatic interactions. LÄS MER
2. Spatially Controlled Covalent Immobilization of Biomolecules on Silicon Surfaces
Sammanfattning : The work described in this thesis aims to achieving surface patterning through chemical activation of thiolated silicon oxide surfaces, resulting in a spatially controlled covalent immobilization of biomolecules with high resolution.Existing chemical methods to immobilize molecules on surfaces do not reach below the micrometer scale while the ones allowing for spatial control mostly lead to non-covalent adsorption of molecules on surfaces, or require several successive chemical reactions to obtain the final covalent immobilization. 3. From Penicillin Binding Proteins to Community Interventions : Mathematical and Statistical Models Related to Antibiotic Resistance
Sammanfattning : Antibiotic resistance has become a major public health concern and mathematical models are important analytical tools for the understanding, evaluation and prediction of the resistance problem and related control strategies. The risk of emerging antibiotic resistance and selection has rarely been a concern in the design of antibiotic drug dosing regimens. 4. Functional and Modular As=C and P=C Group Motifs
Sammanfattning : This work focuses on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application projections of low-coordinated heavy pnictogen-containing (described by the generic letter E, hence E=C) phosphaalkenes (P=C) and arsaalkenes (As=C), with emphasis on the E=C group motifs. The work aims to understand their functional and modular character, reactivity, and potential applications by stabilizing, isolating, and characterizing these species in low-coordination environments. 5. Beröringens fenomenologi i vårdsammanhang
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the phenomenon of touch and describes its meaning in the healthcare context. Caring science theory based on a lifeworld approach forms the theoretical perspective of the dissertation and consequently the patient perspective is guiding the research. LÄS MER
