  1. 36. Genetic studies on cardiovascular disease - identification of novel drug targets

    Författare :Stefan Amisten; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; platelet; single nucleotide polymorphism; myocardial infarction; stent; G-protein coupled receptor; P2Y; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to identify novel potential drug targets of cardiovascular disease with a focus on G-protein coupled receptors. We identified a common genetic variant of the ATP receptor P2Y11, where an alanine is substituted with a threonine at position 87 of the P2Y11 receptor that increases the risk of developing acute myocardial infarction. 2. 37. Noninvasive evaluation of the effects of coronary artery bypass grafting on myocardial function

    Författare :Anders Hedman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Coronary artery bypass grafting; C-reactive protein; dobutamine stress test; Doppler tissue imaging; echocardiography; exercise test; interleukin-6; myocardial peifusion scintigraphy.;

    Sammanfattning : Coronary bypass grafting (CABG) is an effective treatment of patients with coronary artery disease and leads to an improvement in both cardiac symptoms and long-term survival. The effects of CA13G on global left ventricular systolic and diastolic function at rest and during stress, and the long-term effects on right ventricular function and their significance and relation to early graft occlusion and residual myocardial ischemia have however not been fully elucidated. 3. 38. On endothelial function in type 2 diabetic patients with coronary artery disease

    Författare :Thomas Nyström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Type 2 diabetes; endothelial dysfunction; insulin resistance; coronary artery disease; nitric oxide; glucagon-like peptide 1; exendin; tetrahydrobiopterin; inflammation; adiponectin; resistin; C-reactive protein; tumor necrosis factor a; interleukin-6;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with type 2 diabetes have a poor outcome suffering a myocardial infarction (MI). Endothelial dysfunction may play a role in this poor prognosis. In type 2 diabetes, endothelial dysfunction is a salient feature coexisting with obesity and insulin resistance and may be linked by the same pathophysiology, i.e. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Fecal calprotectin in children with special reference to inflammatory bowel disease

    Författare :Ulrika Lorentzon Fagerberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Biological markers; calcium-binding proteins; Leukocyte L1 Antigen Complex; calprotectin; acute- phase proteins; serum amyloid A; C-reactive protein; ELISA; feces; blood; children; adolescent; colitis; inflammatory bowel disease; colonoscopy; reference values; diagnosis.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to study the clinical usefulness of fecal calprotectin as a noninvasive marker of colonic inflammation in children with suspected or confirmed chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Calprotectin, a calcium-binding protein predominantly expressed in neutrophils, is stable in feces for several days, and can be measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Unstable coronary artery disease : Studies on inflammation, infection, hemostasis, and the effects of low-molecular-mass heparin treatment

    Författare :Henrik Toss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; unstable angina; myocardial infarction; prognosis; inflammation; hemostasis; fibrinolysis; resistance to activated protein C. low-molecular-mass heparin; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The occurrence and prognostic importance, of inflammatory activity, signs of Chlamydia pneumoniae infection. APC resistance, hemostasis, and the effects of low-molecular-mass heparin (LMMH) was evaluated in patients with unstable coronary artery disease (UCAD). LÄS MER
