  1. 1. On the Application of Surface Wave Surveys for Seismic Site Response Evaluation

    Författare :Edwin Obando; Teknisk geologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Surface wave; MASW; seismic site response; ground motion; seismic transfer functions; shear wave velocity; site amplification; walk-away; near-field effect; dispersion curve.;

    Sammanfattning : In sites where earthquakes occur, the use of surface wave methods represents a convenient and effective procedure for soil characterization. In particular, Multichannel Analysis of Surface Wave (MASW) has become a popular tool in many seismic micro-zoning projects. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Do metal particles (including particles of pure metals, alloys, metal oxides and compounds) pose a hazard or risk to human health? In the light of this question, this thesis summarizes results from research conducted on metal particles, and describes the elaboration and implementation of an in vitro test methodology to study metal release from particles through corrosion and dissolution processes in synthetic biological media relevant for human exposure through inhalation/ingestion and dermal contact. Bioaccessible metals are defined as the pool of released metals from particles that potentially could be made available for absorption by humans or other organisms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the role of surface properties for implant fixation : From finite element modeling to in vivo studies

    Författare :Patrik Stenlund; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Implant stability; Removal torque; Surface roughness; Surface chemistry; Finite element analysis; Experimental; In vivo; Osseointegration; Mechanical loading; Bone regeneration; Biomechanics;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to gain a deeper understanding of the factors contributing to the fixation of bone-anchored implants, especially with regard to surface chemistry, surface topography and implant loading. The methodology used in the thesis ranges from systematic bench studies, computer simulations, experimental in vivo studies, to load cell measurements on patients treated with bone-anchored amputation prostheses. 4. 4. Laser Doppler perfusion imaging : methodology and skin applications

    Författare :Karin Wårdell; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Over the last decade a number of emerging technologies have become available for the non-invasive study of skin anatomy and physiology. In this thesis, a method for mapping tissue perfusion based on the laser Doppler technique is presented together with some of the associated experimental and clinical applications. LÄS MER
