31. Biomarkers of inflammation in atrial fibrillation
Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common and associated with increased risk of stroke, heart failure (HF) and mortality. Inflammation is linked to AF.The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate inflammatory activity and cardiovascular outcomes and mortality in patients with AF on effective oral anticoagulation. 32. Atrial fibrillation : treatment, associated conditions and quantification of symptoms
Sammanfattning : Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent cardiac arrhythmia. There is a need for new pharmacological treatment strategies since the current antiarrhythmic drugs have a modest efficacy and may have severe side effects. Cardioversion (CV) of AF offers an opportunity to study related conditions in sinus rhythm (SR) and during AF. LÄS MER
33. On the prognostic value of Heparin-binding protein in Sepsis
Sammanfattning : Sepsis causes major morbidity and mortality worldwide. There is wide consensus that biomarkers have an important role in sepsis research and patient care. Heparin-binding protein (HBP) is a neutrophil-derived, proinflammatory and vascular permeability-inducing protein and a promising novel sepsis biomarker. LÄS MER
34. Protein Interaction Studies with Low Molecular Weight Ligands : Applications for Drug Discovery, Basic Research and Diagnostic Tool Design
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the interactions between different proteins and small ligands were characterized by surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy (SPR) and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) based assays. For the C-reactive protein (CRP), a new type of artificial binder was identified which allows designing diagnostic assays superior to commonly used standard assays. LÄS MER
35. Development of Peptide Binders : Applied to Human CRP, Carbonic Anhydrase (II, IX) and Lysine Demethylase 1
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, a polypeptide binder concept is illustrated. By conjugation to a set of sixteen polypeptides, a small binding molecule can evolve into a polypeptide binder with increased affinity and selectivity. LÄS MER
