    Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses the everyday life of the Swedish East India company employees in Canton and Macao 1730–1830. Through a focus on everyday practices, analysed on the basis of ethnicity, class and gender, I show how the Swedes and other foreigners led their everyday life in a constant interplay between adaptation to and transgression of Chinese rules.     Sammanfattning : This thesis employs a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods of linguistic analysis to investigate how business organizations use discourse as a strategic tool to build and repair stakeholders’ trust. In addition, the thesis makes a methodological contribution by developing a novel corpus annotation method that offers solutions to some of the most significant challenges involved in reliably identifying and quantifying evaluation.
