Sammanfattning : The aim of the study is to examine, using the social networks as a starting-point, the way a local community is constructed in a specific historical context, namely the industrial community of Limhamn in southern Sweden at the time of the Industrial Revolution 1870-1914. In 1870 the Skånska Cement Company initiated a large-scale extraction of limestone in the area and soon had cement works built in the village, making Limhamn undergo a rapid urbanization. LÄS MER
3. Environmental and climatic aspects of the early to mid Holocene calcareous tufa and land mollusc fauna in southern Sweden
Sammanfattning : Although deposition of freshwater calcium carbonates, tufa, has occurred in large areas with carbonate soil or bedrock in Sweden, no tufa formation has been observed in Sweden. To better understand the factors controlling tufa formation in southern Sweden, bio- and lithostratigraphical studies were carried out on (paludal) calcareous tufa deposits in the province of Skåne. 4. Through the eyes of a woodpecker: Understanding habitat selection, territory quality and reproductive decisions from individual behaviour
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I present some connections between foraging behaviour and reproductive success, time budget, tree species use, and habitat selection. The thesis is based upon both theoretical and empirical work. All empirical studies concern a south Swedish population of lesser spotted woodpeckers Dendrocopos minor, studied between 1990 and 1996. 5. Metapopulation ecology of Osmoderma eremita - dispersal, habitat quality and habitat history
Sammanfattning : This thesis starts with a review of different biodiversity assessment methods in forests and the rest deals with the metapopulation ecology of Osmoderma eremita, a threatened beetle living in hollow trees. I concentrate on the effect of dispersal, habitat quality and habitat history for the presence, population size and future survival of this species. LÄS MER
