21. Water and Protein Dynamics in Biological Systems Studied by Magnetic Relaxation Dispersion
Sammanfattning : The results presented in this thesis demonstrate that the magnetic relaxation dispersion (MRD) technique can provide information of relevance to protein biophysics, magnetic resonance imaging and cell biology. By immobilizing proteins with covalent cross-links, intermittent protein dynamics on the previously inaccessible ns-µs time scale could be probed with MRD via the exchange of water molecules between internal cavities and the surrounding bulk solvent phase. 22. Into the Membrane and Beyond : Improving Membrane Protein Over-Expression in Escherichia coli
Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins fulfil a wide variety of essential functions in the cell and many are (potential) drug targets. Since their natural abundance is usually very low, most membrane proteins have to be over-expressed for functional and structural studies. LÄS MER
23. Structural Studies of Binding Proteins: Investigations of Flexibility, Specificity and Stability
Sammanfattning : Binding proteins are present both in gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. They are the recognition components of the ABC transport systems that transport different nutrients into the cell, and are in some cases also involved in chemotaxis. LÄS MER
24. Amyloid Beta – Biotherapy Target and Biotechnological Tool
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized primarily by memory impairment and cognitive decline. As of 2020, an estimated 50 million people suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia and no disease-modifying treatment options are yet approved for clinical practice. LÄS MER
25. Viperin vs. tick-borne encephalitis virus : mechanism of a potent antiviral protein
Sammanfattning : Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) is a very important virus medically, causing mild or severe encephalitis often with long-lasting sequelae. Treatment of tick-borne encephalitis is limited to supportive care, and antiviral drugs are much needed. The type-I interferon (IFN) system is the first line of host defense against many viruses.
