26. Ambiguous Endeavours. The Evolution of the Melodramatic Mode in Polish Holocaust Narratives from Hanna Krall to "The Aftermath"
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines how melodrama, defined as a complex, distinctly modern and transnational mode of storytelling with lasting impact on the culture of global modernity, has influenced the area of Polish Holocaust representation since the late 1970s till the present. Within a methodological frame that seeks to combine textual and contextual analysis, the study poses a set of questions that can be asked of the melodramatic mode’s narrative structures and stylistic devices, their signifying and functionality, in selected instances of literary and film narratives. 28. Minnesspår : Hågkomstens rum och rörelse i skuggan av flykt
Sammanfattning : Focusing on the memories of Estonian refugees moving to Sweden in the wake of World War II, I analyze the concepts of “memory space” and history within the framework of the Escape as a master narrative. Sammanfattning : Suburbia has made a powerful return in American literature of the past two decades. This renaissance of suburban fictional narrative bears the signum of alienated, anxious, and resentful white middle-class men in gray flannel suits that has remained since the formative postwar period of the 1950s and 1960s.
