  1. 11. Geographic variation in life cycles : Local adaptation and ecological genetics in a temperate butterfly

    Författare :Olle Lindestad; Karl Gotthard; Sören Nylin; Christopher W Wheat; Greg Ragland; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; voltinism; local adaptation; insect; life cycle; seasonality; genomics; life history; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Conditions in nature change with the seasons, necessitating seasonal adaptations that synchronize the life cycles of organisms with their surroundings. Such regulatory adaptations must vary between populations to track local variation in climate and seasonality; this local adaptation is facilitated by locally specific seasonal cues, but may be hampered by gene flow and genetic history. 2. 12. Environmental actions on concrete exposed in marine and road environments and its response - Consequences for the initiation of chloride induced reinforcement corrosion

    Författare :Anders Lindvall; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; corrosion; de-icing salt; road conditions; marine conditions; service life predictions; reinforcement; chloride; concrete; moisture conditions; environmental actions;

    Sammanfattning : The object of the study presented here has been to describe, further explain and model the influence of the exposure conditions on reinforced concrete structures and the consequences on their expected service life. The focus has been on investigating and quantifying the exposure conditions for structures in marine and road conditions exposed to chloride ions. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Scarred for Life. How conditions in early life affect socioeconomic status, reproduction and mortality in Southern Sweden, 1813-1968

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this doctoral thesis is to contribute to the debate on the importance of diet and disease in explaining the mortality decline and the general literature of the long-term effects of early life conditions. Using individual-level data from Southern Sweden for 1813 to 1968, this work measures the impacts of grain prices during the foetal stage and infant mortality rates during the year of birth on mortality over the full life course, as well as on female socioeconomic status attainment and reproductive health.
