Sammanfattning : This dissertation argues that Swedish immigrant policy – that is, the conditions provided to resident immigrants – has gained legitimacy when distanced from past immigrant policies. Sammanfattning : Over the past decade, Japan has reformed its foreign and security posture at a pace not witnessed since the first decades of the postwar period. The second Abe Shinzo government (2012–2020) established new national security institutions and laws, reinterpreted the legal foundation for its alliances, revised the development aid charter, removed bans on weapon exports, and aligned explicit security, economic and development policies in broad initiatives across the Indo-Pacific region. 8. Constructing a Post-Soviet International Political Reality : Russian Foreign Policy Towards the Newly Independent States 1990-95
Sammanfattning : The liberal ideas of New Political Thinking, introduced as the governing paradigm of Soviet foreign policy by Mikhail Gorbachev in the late 1980's, were to a substantial extent "adopted" and applied by the new leadership of post-Soviet Russia, not only in its dealings with the Western world, but also when formulating a foreign policy towards the 14 Newly Independent States. However, by mid-1992, a mere six months after the Soviet collapse, there were clear indications that a dramatic change in Russian foreign policy towards its next-door neighbours had come about. Sammanfattning : The specific interest of this dissertation is to analyze and discuss the Swedish political struggle of defining the purposes and aims of higher education during the time period 1992-2007. Underlying this specific interest is a broader interest to take part in a multifold discussion concerning the role of higher education in relation to issues of societal and democratic development and of individual identity and citizenship, in times defined in terms of globalization and pluralism.
