  1. 21. Insulinogenic Effects of Milk- and Other Dietary Proteins, Mechanisms and metabolic implications

    Författare :Mikael Nilsson; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Näringslära; Nutrition; Type 2 diabetes; Isolated islets; Incretin hormones; Food proteins; Amino acids; Insulin index; Glycaemic index; Hyperinsulinaemia; Insulin; Blood glucose; Milk; Whey;

    Sammanfattning : The metabolic syndrome (type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, dyslipidaemia, and hyperinsulinaemia), is increasing in prevalence world-wide. The progression of this syndrome proceeds through a step-wise deterioration of metabolic events where deterioration of insulin sensitivity appears to have a key role in a ?vicious circle? of hyperinsulinaemia/hyperglycaemia and insulin resistance. 2. 22. Peptidoglycan recognition proteins in Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Thomas Werner; Dan Hultmark; Bruno Lemaitre; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Drosophila; PGRP; peptidoglycan; pattern recognition; imd; Relish; isoform; RNAi; mbn-2; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster is an excellent model organism to study the innate immune response, because insects and mammals share conserved features regarding the recognition and destruction of microorganisms and Drosophila is easily accessible to genetic manipulation. In my present study, I identified a new family of pattern recognition molecules for bacterial peptidoglycan in Drosophila, the Peptidoglycan Recognition Proteins (PGRP). LÄS MER

  3. 23. Properties of Interfacial Proteinaceous Films with Emphasis on Oral Systems

    Författare :Cecilia Hahn Berg; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; trypsin; SDS elutability; statherin; salivary proteins; salivary pellicle; proline-rich proteins; plaque control; mucins; microbial adhesion; lubrication; krillase; intraoral friction; hydroxyapatite; gelatin; exchange; enzymes; ellipsometry; dental plaque; degradation; colloidal probe; calcium-induced precipitation; adsorption; atomic force microscopy; total internal reflectance fluorescence spectroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis addresses three issues related to proteinaceous films at solid/liquid interfaces: adsorption, lubrication and enzymatic interactions. Most of the work has been devoted to oral systems. In addition, gelatin has been investigated as a model protein. LÄS MER

  4. 24. The amyloid-β precursor protein (APP) and its adaptor protein Fe65 : Two key players in Alzheimer’s disease

    Författare :Preeti Menon; Anna-Lena Ström; Thorsten Müller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; APP; Fe65; Meprinβ; α-secretase; APP processing; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by the abnormal accumulation and aggregation of amyloid beta (Aβ) peptides within the brain. Generation of Aβ occur when the amyloid-beta precursor protein (APP) is proteolytically processed by β- and then γ-secretase in the amyloidogenic pathway. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Prediction, Design and Determination of Protein Structures

    Författare :Sebastian Rämisch; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein design; Rosetta; Fold-and-Dock; leucine rich repeat proteins; coiled-coils; molecular replacement; ab initio phasing; temperature stability; fluorescent proteins;

    Sammanfattning : The three-dimensional structure of protein is encoded in its amino acid sequence. Modern structure prediction algorithms make it possible to predict the structure of small proteins using sequence information alone. LÄS MER
