C4BP is an important regulator of the classical pathway of the complement system, a cascade-like system comprised of over 35 proteins, which partakes in the defence against micro-organisms and is involved of clearance of immune-complexes and apoptotic cells.    Sammanfattning : Several optically active organometallic Phe-AAn-Phe peptidomimetics and macrocyclic Phe-(Phe)n peptides have been synthesized by either intra- or intermolecular peptide bond formation of the corresponding bis(amino acid) derivatives. The key bis(amino acid) derivatives were available from an improved multi-step synthetic route, utilising Horner-Wadswort-Emmons olefination of organometallic aldehydes with phosphonylglycine reagents, enantioselective hydrogenation of didehydro amino acids and classical solution and/or solid phase peptide synthesis methodology.    Sammanfattning : The relationship between intracellular free calcium ([Ca2+]i) and force in smooth muscle was investigated in receptor-coupled permeabilized preparations and by fluorimetry of the calcium indicator Fura 2 in intact smooth muscle. The time integral of spontaneous [Ca2+]i transients in the intact rat portal vein was decreased by cyanide and, during tonic contraction, cyanide reduced force without changing [Ca2+]i implying metabolic sensitivity of both membrane excitation and [Ca2+]i - activation of the contractile proteins.
