21. Misfolded superoxide dismutase-1 in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a disease in which the motor neurons die in a progressive manner, leading to paralysis and muscle wasting. ALS is always fatal, usually through respiratory failure when the disease reaches muscles needed for breathing. Most cases are sporadic, but approximately 5–10% are familial. LÄS MER
22. Studies of the Biology of Intrathecal Treatment in Progressive MS
Sammanfattning : Background: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, inflammatory, autoimmune disease, affecting the central nervous system (CNS). About 85% of afflicted present with a relapsing-remitting form of the disease (RRMS), for which a breakthrough in treatment was made in 2008 with rituximab, an antibody directed towards CD20, a surface antigen on B-cells. 23. Kidney Hyaluronan : Regulatory Aspects During Different States of Body Hydration, Nephrogenesis & Diabetes
Sammanfattning : The kidney regulates the excretion of water and electrolytes, which maintains homeostasis and enables control of arterial blood pressure. Hyaluronan, a large negatively charged interstitial glucosaminoglycan, is heterogeneously distributed within the kidney, primarily found in the medulla. LÄS MER
24. Radiation induced pneumonitis : clinical and experimental studies with special emphasis on the effect of smoking
Sammanfattning : Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) is an established method providing diagnostic support and evaluation of disease activity in interstitial lung disease (ILD). The aims of the present investigation were 1) to study the inflammatory response in pneumonitis evoked by irradiation. LÄS MER
25. Transvascular fluid exchange with application to the brain. An experimental study in cat skeletal muscle and brain
Sammanfattning : This study evaluated transcapillary fluid exchange in the cat brain and in a cat skeletal muscle enclosed in a plethysmograph. A method for determination of capillary permeability (capillary filtration coefficient and reflection coefficient) and effects of transcapillary hydrostatic pressure changes were studied We found that capillary fluid permeability in a tissue can be determined by the capillary filtration coefficient, even when arterial pressure and vascular tone are changed.
