    Sammanfattning : Situated within research on language socialization and family language policy, this thesis explores how young children (2–4 years old) learn their heritage language in multilingual, transnational families, and how multilingualism becomes an integral part of family life. It draws on video-ethnographic fieldwork in three bi/multilingual families in Sweden with preschool-aged children where the mothers speak Russian and the parents aspire to raise children multilingually.     Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the vocabulary skills and the non-word repetition (NWR) performance of 99 typically developing (TD) 4­­–7-year-old Arabic-Swedish-speaking children and 11 Arabic-Swedish-speaking children with a diagnosis of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). The children’s early language development, family backgrounds and language exposure patterns are explored through parental questionnaires, and for the DLD children also via interviews with parents, teachers and speech-language pathologists regarding their developmental history, language skills and communicative behaviour.     Sammanfattning : This dissertation investigates the vocabulary and narrative skills of 100 Arabic-Swedish-speaking children (aged 4–7 years) in Sweden cross-sectionally and the development of these skills (4 to 6) in a subgroup of 10 children longitudinally. Also, the vocabulary skills of 100 Arabic-speaking bilingual children (aged 4–7 years) in Lebanon are investigated cross-sectionally and compared to the Swedish cross-sectional study. LÄS MER
