  1. 11. Polymorphism in sex steroid-related genes. Effects on hormone levels and behavior

    Författare :Lars Westberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sex steroids; androgen receptor; estrogen receptor; progesterone receptor; polymorphism; genetics; association study; prolactin; personality; premenstrual dysphoric disorder; Parkinson s disease;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic factors are important for variations between individuals with respect to most humantraits and diseases. 2. 12. Impact of Lifestyle, Hormones, and Genes on Breast Cancer

    Författare :Maria Hietala; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast cancer; BRCA1; BRCA2; androgen receptor; CAG; GGC; polymorphism; htSNP; oral contraceptives; testosterone; breast-feeding; prolactin; premenopausal women; CYP2D; complementary and alternative medicin; antidepressants;

    Sammanfattning : Approximately 7000 women are diagnosed and 1500 women die from breast cancer in Sweden every year. The aim of this thesis was to study the interplay of polymorphisms, hormone levels, lifestyle, and the use of concomitant medication in relation to risk and prognosis in two cohorts: one composed of young healthy women from high-risk breast cancer families and the other of breast cancer patients from the general population. 3. 13. Bending and Mending the Neurosignature : Elicting the Relaxation Response with help of Flotation-REST ( Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique) in Patients with Stress Related Pain

    Sammanfattning : Abstract. The overarching purpose of the current thesis was to assess the long term effects of a documented treatment program involving flotation-REST for the experience of pain, from the point of view of variables connected with Melzack´s neuromatrix theory, and to examine the extent of a potential attention-placebo effect in connection with flotation-REST. 4. 14. Investigations of Strategies to Counteract Proinflammatory Cytokines in Experimental Type 1 Diabetes

    Författare :Andreas Börjesson; Stellan Sandler; Annika Carlsson; Jens Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune disease targeted against the pancreatic β-cells. Proinflammatory cytokines are considered to play a major role in the destruction of the insulin-producing β-cells. This thesis studied strategies to counteract proinflammatory cytokines in experimental T1D. LÄS MER
