  1. 11. Studies on Cell Injury Induced by Hypoxia-Reoxygenation and Oxidized Low Density Lipoprotein : With Special Reference to the Protectiove Effect of Mixed Tocopherols, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Transforming Growth Factor-beta1

    Författare :Hongjiang Chen; Tom Saldeen; Christer Sylven; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Tocopherols; fish oil; TGF-β1; NOS; adhesion molecules; MMPs; PKB; MAPK; H-R; Ox-LDL; Myocytes; HCAECs; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Hypoxia-reoxygenation (H-R) injury is an important clinical phenomenon in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Endothelial injury is a critical step in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis. Therefore, endothelial and cardiomyocyte protection has been considered an effective step in prevention and treatment of CAD. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Muscle mass and physical function in ageing : the effects of physical activity and healthy diet

    Författare :Peter Edholm; Fawzi Kadi; Andreas Nilsson; Paolo Caserotti; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Healthy ageing; Sarcopenia; Dynapenia; Functional capacity; Resistance training; Omega-3 fatty acids; Muscle mass; Body fat;

    Sammanfattning : Ageing is associated with a gradual deterioration in physical function, accompanied by a decrease in muscle mass, leading to loss of independency. In this respect, physical activity and healthy diet represent key lifestyle factors with potential to delay onset of age-related physical disability. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Cardiovascular and metabolic control in obese children and adolescents

    Författare :Frida Dangardt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :obesity; children; atherosclerosis; omega-3 fatty acids; ultrasound; insulin;

    Sammanfattning : Childhood obesity is an emerging risk factor for disease and mortality worldwide. The cardiovascular consequences and prevention thereof need to be further investigated. Exercise and weight loss are well examined and effective in the prevention of cardiovascular risk, but warrant well motivated patients with strong social support. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Biomarkers of fish consumption and risk of stroke or myocardial infarction

    Författare :Maria Wennberg; Jan-Håkan Jansson; Ingvar Bergdahl; Maria Albin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fish consumption; omega-3 fatty acids; eicosapentaenoic acid; docosahexaenoic acid; methylmercury; selenium; lead; cadmium; stroke; myocardial infarction; erythrocytes; food frequency questionnaire; Environmental medicine; Miljömedicin; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; hälso- och sjukvårdsforskning; health services research; medicin; Medicine; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap; näringslära; Nutrition;

    Sammanfattning : The effect of fish consumption on the risk of cardiovascular disease has been extensively studied. Omega-3 fatty acids present in fish, namely eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), have been found to have beneficial effects through several mechanisms. In addition, selenium, an antioxidant, may be protective. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Metabolic Health and Cognitive Function : The Roles of Lifestyle and Shift Work

    Författare :Olga E. Titova; Christian Benedict; Robert Fredriksson; Veronica Witte; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :cognitive function; Mediterranean diet; omega-3 fatty acids; MRI; shift work history; sleep; metabolic syndrome; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : The risk of cognitive impairment and metabolic disturbances increases during aging. Healthy lifestyle habits, such as a regular intake of fatty fish and adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MeDi), have been shown to slow age-related cognitive decline and decrease the risk of metabolic disturbances.
