1. Promises and Pitfalls of Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage : Actors' Perspectives, Challenges, and Mitigation Deterrence in Sweden
Sammanfattning : Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) methods, such as bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), have gained traction in international climate policy arenas to meet net-zero goals. Even though companies operating facilities with large point sources of biogenic emissions, such as pulp and paper industries and energy utilities, could implement carbon capture, there are few studies that take a bottomup perspective to study these key actors. 2. Biochar systems across scales in Sweden : An industrial ecology perspective
Sammanfattning : Biochar – the carbon rich residue derived from biomass pyrolysis – is recognised as a potential solution to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, while simultaneously delivering socio-environmental benefits through biochar use as a material. Perceived as a sustainable innovation, biochar has raised interest throughout the world. LÄS MER
3. Sustainable Development: Implementation in Urban Water Systems
Sammanfattning : As Sustainable development, a widely used but poorly understood term, challenges traditional scientific values such as prediction and control, scientists have tried to manipulate the concept to promote their own particular agendas. Thus, it has suffered from misrepresentation which has prevented the concept from being fully implemented at a practical level. LÄS MER
4. Fine and Ultrafine Particles from Combustion Sources - Investigations with In-situ Techniques
Sammanfattning : Fine airborne particles are associated with adverse health effects in the human population. The aim of this research was to develop and evaluate methods for in-situ characterisation of fine and ultrafine particles and to determine their deposition in the human airways. LÄS MER
5. Renewable Energy in Energy-Efficient, Low-Pollution Systems
Sammanfattning : Energy use accounts for the dominating fraction of total sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. In this thesis, different strategies for reducing these emissions are evaluated, using a bottom-up approach. The thesis is divided in two parts. LÄS MER
