1. Sustainable Development: Implementation in Urban Water Systems
Sammanfattning : As Sustainable development, a widely used but poorly understood term, challenges traditional scientific values such as prediction and control, scientists have tried to manipulate the concept to promote their own particular agendas. Thus, it has suffered from misrepresentation which has prevented the concept from being fully implemented at a practical level. LÄS MER
2. Nutrient Transfer in Aquaponic Systems – Optimizing microbial processes for greater circularity and economic viability
Sammanfattning : The trend towards sustainable process design in modern industries combines the goal of improving process efficiency with a conscientious shift towards resource conservation. Aquaponics, a system that involves co-cultivating fish and plants, is a waste-conscious food production system. LÄS MER
3. Fudgets - Purely Functional Processes with applications to Graphical User Interfaces
Sammanfattning : The main result of this thesis is a method for writing programs with graphical user interfaces in purely functional languages. The method is based on a new abstraction called the fudget. The method makes good use of key abstraction powers of functional languages, such as higher order functions and parametric polymorphism. 4. Autocrine/paracrine interactions moendocrine pancreasdulating hormone release in the endocrine pancreas
Sammanfattning : Human islet transplantation is emerging as an alternative to pancreas transplantation or insulin therapy in the treatment of type I diabetes. It has been possible to achieve euglycemia by transplanting isolated human islets in patients who suffer from the long term side effects of diabetes and insulin therapy. LÄS MER
5. Low Temperature Waste Heat Recovery in Internal Combustion Engines
Sammanfattning : Over the past few decades, the automotive industry has increasingly looked towards increasing the efficiency of the internal combustion engine to meet more stringent emission norms and as a measure to meet demands for improved air quality in cities. One method to improve the internal combustion engine efficiency is to recover some of the energy lost to the coolant and the exhaust using a secondary thermodynamic cycle such as an Organic Rankine Cycle.
