1. Prostate cancer incidence, treatment and mortality : Empirical longitudinal register-based studies and methods for handling missing data
Sammanfattning : The diagnostic activity for prostate cancer has increased substantially in Sweden, primarily due to increased use of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing in asymptomatic men, and this has led to a large increase in diagnoses. There have also been changes in the diagnostic workup, guidelines, treatment strategies, and more effective treatments have been introduced in different phases of the disease. LÄS MER
2. Mortality in transitional Vietnam
Sammanfattning : Understanding mortality patterns is an essential pre-requisite for guiding public health action and for supporting development of evidence-based policy. However, such information is not sufficiently available in Vietnam. LÄS MER
3. Risk stratification in cardiac surgery: Algorithms and applications
Sammanfattning : The aims of this research was to compare different risk score algorithms with regard to their validity to predict 30-day and one-year mortality after open-heart surgery, to evaluate if the preoperative risk stratification model EuroSCORE predicts the different components of resource utilization in cardiac surgery, and to systematically evaluate the accuracy and performance of artificial neural networks (ANNs) to select and rank the most important risk factors for operative mortality in open-heart surgery. Preoperative evaluation of the surgical risk is an important component in cardiac surgery. LÄS MER
4. Modelling short and long term consequences of changes in diagnostic activity and treatment
Sammanfattning : Since the late 90’s the diagnostic activity for prostate cancer has increased in Sweden, primarily due to increased use of PSA testing, and this has led to a large increase in diagnoses. Simultaneously, there have been changes in treatment strategies, and more effective treatments have been introduced. LÄS MER
5. Multiple Time Scales and Longitudinal Measurements in Event History Analysis
Sammanfattning : A general time-to-event data analysis known as event history analysis is considered. The focus is on the analysis of time-to-event data using Cox's regression model when the time to the event may be measured from different origins giving several observable time scales and when longitudinal measurements are involved.
