  1. 1. Mathematical Reasoning : In physics and real-life context

    Detta är en avhandling från Göteborg : Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg

    Författare :Helena Johansson; Mats Andersson; Jesper Boesen; Morten Blomhøj; [2015]
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Creative mathematical reasoning; Descriptive statistics; Differential item functioning; Figurative context; Imitative reasoning; Mathematical Reasoning Requirements; Mathematics tasks; National tests; Physics tasks; Real-life context; T-test; Upper secondary school;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a compilation of four papers in which mathematical reasoning is examined in various contexts, in which mathematics is an integral part. It is known from previous studies that a focus on rote learning and procedural mathematical reasoning hamper students’ learning of mathematics. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Bayesian networks: exact inference and applications in forensic statistics

    Detta är en avhandling från Göteborg : Chalmers University of Technology

    Författare :Ivar Simonsson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2016]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bayesian networks; variable elimination algorithm; forensic statistics; relationship inference; mutation models; relationship inference; variable elimination algorithm; forensic statistics; mutation models;

    Sammanfattning : Exact inference on Bayesian networks has been developed through sophisticated algorithms. One of which, the variable elimination algorithm, identifies smaller components of the network, called factors, on which local operations are performed. In principle this algorithm can be used on any Bayesian network. LÄS MER

  3. 3. From Penicillin Binding Proteins to Community Interventions : Mathematical and Statistical Models Related to Antibiotic Resistance

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Matematiska institutionen

    Sammanfattning : Antibiotic resistance has become a major public health concern and mathematical models are important analytical tools for the understanding, evaluation and prediction of the resistance problem and related control strategies.The risk of emerging antibiotic resistance and selection has rarely been a concern in the design of antibiotic drug dosing regimens. 4. 4. On Methods for Real Time Sampling and Distributions in Sampling

    Detta är en avhandling från Umeå : Matematisk statistik

    Författare :Kadri Meister; Daniel Thorburn; [2004]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical statistics; Finite population sampling; inferential issues; real time sampling; sequential sampling methods; negative sampling correlations; model-design-based inference; multivariate Bernoulli and multinomial designs; Matematisk statistik; MATHEMATICS Applied mathematics Mathematical statistics; MATEMATIK Tillämpad matematik Matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is composed of six papers, all dealing with the issue of sampling from a finite population. We consider two different topics: real time sampling and distributions in sampling. The main focus is on Papers A–C, where a somewhat special sampling situation referred to as real time sampling is studied. LÄS MER
