  1. 11. Regulation of the exocrine pancreas in growing pigs, with special emphasis on entero-pancreatic reflexes

    Författare :Lena Evilevitch; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kidney bean lectin; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi; duodenum; entero-pancreatic reflex; insulin; lipas; amylas; trypsin; weaning; development; maturation; inhibition; CCK-receptors; Exocrine pancreas; CCK; pig;

    Sammanfattning : The regulation of the exocrine pancreas has been under thorough investigation for many decades. In rats, cholecystokinin (CCK) is considered to be the major gut hormone stimulating the pancreas to releasing the digestive enzymes. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Impact of the gut microflora on the digestive system in the suckling rat

    Författare :Frida Fåk; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; probiotics; prebiotics; antibiotics; lactobacilli; bacteria; intestinal permeability; Small intestine; maturation; weaning; suckling;

    Sammanfattning : The postnatal development of the gastrointestinal (GI) system in mammals is genetically programmed, but is, to an unknown extent, regulated by external factors such as the diet and the gut microflora. These factors can influence the growth of the GI tract, the age-related pattern of appearance of digestive enzymes and the decreased intestinal macromolecular permeability at gut closure, normally timed with weaning in young rodents. 3. 13. Species interactions govern evolutionary and ecological effects of population harvesting

    Författare :Anna Gårdmark; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; population harvesting; species interactions; ecological community; Ekologi; Ecology; competition; predation; fisheries; spatial dynamics; maturation; population dynamics; life-history evolution; adaptation;

    Sammanfattning : Harvesting changes population abundance and can affect adaptation of several life-history traits. Harvesting can also have indirect effects ? effects on non-target species and secondary effects on target species ? because interactions between species in a community determine the relevant ecological and evolutionary feedback environment. 5. 15. Variation in age and size at maturation in two benthic crustaceans in the Gulf of Bothnia

    Författare :Kjell Leonardsson; J. Ekman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Age at maturation; alternative prey; Bergmanris rule; cannibalism; growth; life-history theory; mortality; Mvoxocephalus quadricornis; poikilotherm; Pontoporeia affinis; population dynamics; risk- taking behaviour; Saduria entomon; size at maturation; temperature;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis deals with variation in age and size at maturation in Saduria entomon and Pontoporeia affinis along a depth gradient in the Gulf of Bothnia, Sweden. I have analysed at what sizes and ages animals should mature in relation to growth and mortality conditions. LÄS MER
