6. Glucocorticosteroid effects on cytokine production: studies in a glucocorticosteroid resistance model and in allergic airway disease
Sammanfattning : Glucocorticosteroids (GCS) are potent anti-inflammatory drugs, probably due to inhibitory effects on cytokine production. However, a small number of asthma patients seem GCS-resistant. Pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-2(IL-2) and IL-4, produced during allergic airway inflammation have been proposed to induce the resistance to GCS. LÄS MER
7. Neural Interfaces to the Odour World of Scarab Beetles
Sammanfattning : Antennal detection and central nervous integration of behaviourally relevant odours in scarab beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) was investigated, using the two Japanese scarabs Anomala cuprea and Phyllopertha diversa (Rutelinae), and the Central African fruit chafer Pachnoda marginata (Cetoniinae) as model species. Electrophysiological single cell recordings in A. LÄS MER
8. Green Logistics through Modal Shift - exploring the role of the transport capacity contract
Sammanfattning : Among policy-makers in Europe the modal shift - a shift från polluting modes of freight transport to less polluting modes - has been a popular suggestion for reducing CO2-emissions of transportation. In particular, intermodal road-rail solutions, where a combination of road and rail transport is utilized to move trailers and containers, have been stressed as an important measure to reach de desired reduction in emissions. 9. On the road to interoperability : Complexities of public sector enterprise thinking
Sammanfattning : Increasingly, eGovernment (the use of ICTs in order to achieve better government) is moving its focus from web presence and electronic service provision to striving for an interoperable public sector. Interoperability refers to the ability for information exchange across organizational borders, concerning technology as well as business aspects. LÄS MER
10. Discordant Neural Xenografting: Analysis and Modulation of Immune Responses
Sammanfattning : Transplantation of embryonic human neural tissue can restore function in patients with Parkinson’s disease, but there is a severe shortage of donor tissue which limits the applicability of the technique. Embryonic neural tissue from other species, xenogeneic tissue, would provide a readily accessible donor tissue with the potential to help patients if the immunological reactions in the host could be prevented.
