2. Atrial Conduction and P-wave Characteristics: From histology to electrophysiology
Sammanfattning : P-wave morphology reflects the projection of the depolarization vector on the electrocardiogram (ECG)lead axes in three-dimentional space and reflects both right and left atrial activation. The main purpose of current thesis was to explore the internal logic between the atrial conduction properties, including intra- and inter- atrial conduction, and P-wave characteristics from the level of histology to electrophysiology. 3. Porcine myocardial ischemia-reperfusion studies on cardioprotection, ventricular arrhythmia and electrophysiology
Sammanfattning : Background: Coronary artery disease is the primary cause of death in adults in the industrialised world and ventricular fibrillation associated with myocardial ischemia is the main cause of sudden cardiac death. Restoration of blood flow and preservation of myocardial integrity throughout ischemia and reperfusion is essential to improve clinical outcome. LÄS MER
4. Lateralization of human olfaction : cognitive functions and electrophysiology
Sammanfattning : In this thesis lateralization of olfactory functions was investigated by both behavioral and electrophysiological assessment, the latter with the olfactory event-related potential (OERP) technique. The olfactory sense is primarily ipsilateral in that a stimulus that is presented to one nostril is initially processed in the same hemisphere. LÄS MER
5. High-Tc SQUIDs for magnetophysiology - development of a magnetometer system and measurements of evoked fields from hippocampal neurons in vitro
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns development of a system based on a high-transition-temperature superconducting quantum interference device (high-Tc SQUID) magnetometer. The system has been designed and used for magnetic field recordings from brain slices, i.e. magnetophysiology. LÄS MER
