6. Go with your gut : The human intestinal microbiota, international travel, Campylobacter and ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae
Sammanfattning : Up to 100 million people travel annually from industrialized countries to resource-limited ones. Each traveller contains an internal ecosystem composed of tens of trillions of microbes, known as the intestinal microbiota, which has a large effect on health. LÄS MER
7. Change in the Pharmaceutical Industry : Aspects on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Openness, and Decision Making
Sammanfattning : Over the past century, the pharmaceutical industry has been a major contributor of individual and population health and societal wealth. Its products and services have contributed to longevity of large groups of patients and symptom relief from major diseases. LÄS MER
8. Reproducible Data Analysis in Drug Discovery with Scientific Workflows and the Semantic Web
Sammanfattning : The pharmaceutical industry is facing a research and development productivity crisis. At the same time we have access to more biological data than ever from recent advancements in high-throughput experimental methods. LÄS MER
9. Where did the ink go? : The effect of liquid absorption on ink distribution in flexography
Sammanfattning : The appearance of a print is affected by the individual ink layers. If the ink is unevenly distributed on the substrate it lowers the quality. This thesis puts focus on how the liquid absorbency of a coated substrate impacts on the ink distribution in flexographic printing. LÄS MER
10. Plants go with the flow : predicting spatial distribution of plant species in the boreal forest
Sammanfattning : The main objectives of this thesis are to study if a topographic wetness index (TWI) could be used as a tool for predicting the spatial distribution of vascular plant species richness in the boreal forest as well as to study congruence in species richness between vascular plants, liverworts, mosses and lichens. A wetness index ln(a/tanβ) based on topography was used to assign a specific TWI-value to every 20 x 20m grid in two 25 km2 boreal forest landscapes (differing in average soil pH) in northern Sweden.
