1. Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae: Epidemiology, Risk Factors, and Duration of Carriage
Sammanfattning : In human medicine, the most important family of bacteria is Enterobacteriaceae, which includes genera and species that cause well-defined diseases and also nosocomial infections. These bacteria can give rise to numerous infections such as septicaemia and urinary tract infections. LÄS MER
2. Characterisation of Food Associated Bacteria by DNA based Methods, with Special Reference to Enterobacteriaceae
Sammanfattning : The presence of genes in food, encoding some virulence factors, was studied by PCR, and species of Enterobacteriaceae, associated with food, were studied by the DNA-based methods of TTGE, ribotyping and sequencing. The flora of fresh and chill-stored pork were analysed by a culture-independent approach, using specific amplification of 16S rRNA genes followed by cloning and sequencing. LÄS MER
3. Antimicrobial Resistance and Production of Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamases in Enterobacteriaceae from Birds in Bangladesh
Sammanfattning : The dissemination of members of the Enterobacteriaceae family with extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) and metallo-beta-lactamases (MBLs) has become a global concern. ESBLs and MBLs have been reported in humans, domestic animals, wildlife and the environment, and their isolation frequencies are increasing rapidly worldwide. LÄS MER
4. Characterization of Aeromonas, Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas, Bacillus and Lactobacillus spontaneously growing to high numbers in milk, minced meat, fish or cheese
Sammanfattning : The spoilage flora of refrigerated raw and pasteurized milk was classified and identified by numerical phenotypic analysis. Isolations of bacteria were made at a defined spoilage stage, when the total aerobic count was 106-107 cfu per ml. The secondary flora of ripened Swedish and Norwegian cheeses was investigated by numerical analysis. LÄS MER
5. Extended-Spectrum ß-Lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae : Antibiotic consumption, Detection and Resistance Epidemiology
Sammanfattning : ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae are emerging worldwide and they are frequently multi-drug resistant, thus limiting treatment options for infections caused by these pathogens. The overall aim of the thesis was to investigate ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae in a Swedish county.
