  1. 31. Role of nuclear receptors in the regulation of human adipose tissue metabolism

    Författare :Prasad G. Kamble; Jan W Eriksson; Ingrid Dahlman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :human adipose tissue; nuclear receptors; glucocorticoids; estrogen; PPARγ; lipocalin 2; glucose uptake; lipolysis; adipogenesis; genotype-based recall;

    Sammanfattning : Nuclear receptors modulate expression of genes involved in adipose tissue (AT) metabolism. Their improved understanding may provide new treatment options for metabolic disorders such as obesity, insulin resistance (IR) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). LÄS MER

  2. 32. Stroke, Sex and Vascular Receptor Changes in the Brain

    Författare :Hilda Ahnstedt; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; endothelin receptors; Cerebral ischemia; sex; estrogen; progesterone; sex differences; human cerebral arteries; endothelin-1; angiotensin II; middle cerebral artery occlusion; extra-cellular signal regulated kinase 1 and 2;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is a severe cerebrovascular disease in which the neuronal tissue and vasculature of the brain undergo ischemia-evoked alterations. We have demonstrated an increased expression of cerebrovascular contractile receptors in the brain. This is hypothesized to mitigate cerebral blood flow and exacerbate tissue damage after stroke. 3. 33. Prophylactic oophorectomy at elective hysterectomy. Effects on sexuality and psychological well-being

    Författare :Adel Aziz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Androgen; estrogen; hysterectomy; ovary; perimenopause; personality; postmenopause; ; prophylactic oophorectomy; psychological general well-being; sexuality;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Ovarian stromal androgens in perimenopausal women are supposed to be of importancefor sexuality and psychological well-being. This notion is based on findings from studies after theadministration of exogenous androgens and retrospectively designed studies on the outcome afteroophorectomy.Aims: 1. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Giant Cell Arteritis - Pathogenetic and Epidemiological Aspects

    Författare :Karolina Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; giant cell arteritis; temporal arteritis; polymyalgia rheumatica; estrogen; MxA-protein; IFN type 1; Stereology; Neovascularization; immunocytochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of medium-size and large arteries which affects people aged 50 years or older with a female preponderance. The two different expressions of GCA are temporal arteritis (TA) and polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). LÄS MER

  5. 35. Nitric oxide synthase in female reproductive and urinary organs: Hormonal regulation and functional significance

    Författare :Jassim Al-Hijji; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; Obstetrics; estrogen; trophoblast; placenta; vagina; Nitric oxide; uterus; ovarian steroids; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity was studied in cytosolic and particulate fractions in reproductive organs from rabbit (uterus and vagina) and rat (uterus, vagina and cervix). NOS was found predominantly in cytosolic fractions in all tissues and the activity of NOS in both fractions was highly Ca2+ dependent. LÄS MER
