  1. 1. Molecular Etiology of Graves’ Disease and Associated Ophthalmopathy

    Författare :Tereza Planck; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; association study; Graves’ disease; Graves’ ophthalmopathy; immediate early genes; inflammation; adipogenesis; thyrostimulin; BTG2; CYR61; COX2; ZFP36; gene expression; SCD; SNP;

    Sammanfattning : Graves' disease (GD) is a complex autoimmune disorder characterized by hyperthyroidism and diffuse goitre. 25-50% of the patients with GD develop eye symptoms, Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO). The overall aim of this thesis was to explore the molecular etiology of GD and GO. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Hormone-Sensitive Lipase - New roles in adipose tissue biology

    Författare :Kristoffer Ström; Molekylär endokrinologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; retinoid; adipogenesis; adipocyte determination; HSL; WAT;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health, and increased knowledge about the enzymes controlling lipid metabolism is of great importance in order to combat this disease. Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) is a key enzyme in the mobilization of fatty acids from acylglycerols in adipocytes, but also plays important roles in other cell types. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Role of nuclear receptors in the regulation of human adipose tissue metabolism

    Författare :Prasad G. Kamble; Jan W Eriksson; Ingrid Dahlman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :human adipose tissue; nuclear receptors; glucocorticoids; estrogen; PPARγ; lipocalin 2; glucose uptake; lipolysis; adipogenesis; genotype-based recall;

    Sammanfattning : Nuclear receptors modulate expression of genes involved in adipose tissue (AT) metabolism. Their improved understanding may provide new treatment options for metabolic disorders such as obesity, insulin resistance (IR) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Clinical and molecular studies of liposarcoma

    Författare :Katarina Engström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Liposarcoma; radiotherapy; prognostic factors; transfection; FUD-DDIT3; adipogenesis; microarray expression analysis; cell cycle; immunohistochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: (1) To analyse clinicopathological characteristics, treatment and outcome of liposarcoma, and to determine whether, and how, the Scandinavian Sarcoma Group (SSG) treatment guidelines were followed; (2) to analyse tumour volume and morphology response after radiotherapy in myxoid/round cell liposarcoma (MLS/RCLS); (3) to examine the role of the MLS-specific fusion gene FUS-DDIT3 in development of liposarcomas; and (4) to analyse expression patterns of cell cycle regulating proteins in MLS. Methods: (1) A total of 319 liposarcomas reported between 1986?1998 to the SSG Register were reviewed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Adipose Tissue Heterogeneity - Development and Application of Nonlinear Microscopy Methods

    Författare :Alexandra Paul; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; least squares decomposition; stem cells; multivariate spectral analysis; obesity; adipose tissue; adipogenesis; broadband coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering; extracellular matrix;

    Sammanfattning : Although the negative health impacts of obesity have been well documented, the number of overweight or obese patients has and is predicted to continue rising. One of the causal factors of obesity is a constant positive energy balance mainly from excessively high caloric intake from food compared with limited physical activity (caloric expenditure). LÄS MER
