21. Calcium channel activity and force regulation in smooth muscle: Effects of polyamines and growth stimulation
Sammanfattning : The initial signal for contraction in smooth muscle is an increase in [Ca2+]i. Ca2+ ions can either enter the cytosol from the extracellular medium or be released from intracellular stores. Voltage-operated Ca2+ channels (VOC) play a dominant role in the activation of smooth muscle contraction. LÄS MER
22. Extracellular Matrix and Actin Cytoskeleton - the Control Unit of Interstitial Fluid Volume
Sammanfattning : The regulation of fluid (water) volume in the body is crucial for tissue homeostasis. The interstitial fluid, which comprises almost 20% of the body fluid, is stored in the loose connective tissue and its volume is actively regulated by components of this tissue. LÄS MER
23. Ventricular Long Axis Function: Amplitudes and Timings : Echocardiographic Studies in Health and Disease
Sammanfattning : Background: The ageing process not only increases the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) but also complicates its diagnosis and treatment. It is therefore important to understand the newer concepts of cardiovascular ageing physiology as well as methods of predicting the outcomes of therapeutic options available for the elderly with severe CAD. 24. Cardiovascular and respiratory effects of apnea in humans
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with cardiovascular and respiratory effects of apneas in humans. During apnea (breath-holding), a number of interacting cardiovascular reflexes are initiated, and together these reflexes are called the “diving response”. LÄS MER
25. Rock Mechanical Consequences of Refrigeration. A Study Based on a Pilot Scale Rock Cavern
Sammanfattning : The deformation of a rock mass due to temperature decrease below freezing is very complex, since many factors are involved; thermal strain, strain due to stress change, stress re-distribution, ice formation and the temperature dependency of rock mechanical and thermo-physical properties. The objective of this study was to achieve a better understanding of the rock mass response to thermo-mechanical loading when storing low temperature products in rock caverns excavated in hard crystalline rock masses.
