1. Studies on fibrin gel structure
Sammanfattning : Fibrin gel formation is the final result of interaction between multiple plasma proteins; as a result of activation, fibrinogen is converted to fibrin and crosslinking of fibrin occurs by activated factor XIII, which stabilises the formed clot. Fibrin gel networks were studied in purified fibrinogen systems and in plasma samples from patients with cardiovascular complications and healthy individuals, using light-scattering, turbidity, liquid permeation and confocal 3D microscopy techniques. 2. Nerve gap repair by the use of artificial conduits and cultured cells
Sammanfattning : Peripheral nerve injuries are often associated with loss of nerve tissue and require autologous nerve grafts to provide a physical substrate for axonal growth. This thesis investigates the use of fibrin as both a tubular conduit to guide nerve regeneration and also as a matrix material to suspend various regenerative cell types within/on poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) nerve conduits. 3. Extracellular Matrix and Actin Cytoskeleton - the Control Unit of Interstitial Fluid Volume
Sammanfattning : The regulation of fluid (water) volume in the body is crucial for tissue homeostasis. The interstitial fluid, which comprises almost 20% of the body fluid, is stored in the loose connective tissue and its volume is actively regulated by components of this tissue. LÄS MER
4. Studies on vasoactivity of fibrin(ogen) derived peptides
Sammanfattning : Fibrin accumulation is a common fmding in many pathological conditions, such as in inflammatory processes, e.g. in the lungs in pneumonia or pulmonary insufficiency after sepsis. During lysis of the fibrin by plasmin or leukocyte elastase, peptides are released that may contribute to the pathophysiological changes. LÄS MER
