1. Short term water heat storage : an experimental and numerical investigation of phenomena that affect the degree of thermal stratification
Sammanfattning : Thermal stratification was studied by measurements of the temperature and velocity fields in water heat storage's and by numerical simulations. The work includes experimental investigations in three model heat storage's of different size and comparisons to numerical simulations for two of the storages. LÄS MER
2. Short-term and Long-term Exposure to Air pollution and Stroke risk
Sammanfattning : Background: Stroke is a major cause of mortality and morbidity across the world. Air pollution has become an acknowledged risk factor for stroke, especially for acute effects. There is less support for effects by chronic exposure due to the methodological challenges inherent in such studies. LÄS MER
3. Myocardial infarction and cardiac regulation in relation to vibration exposure
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to assess the possible risk of myocardial infarction in work entailing exposure to vibration, and to study whether there is any relation between short-term exposure to vibration and cardiac regulation. Epidemiological methods were applied to investigate a possible association between occupational exposure to vibration and myocardial infarction. LÄS MER
4. Short-term effects of ambient temperature on daily deaths and hospital admissions
Sammanfattning : Background: Incidence of death and hospitalizations have been observed to depend on short-term changes in weather and to increase with extreme temperatures. This thesis aims to strengthen the scientific knowledge on the relationship between temperature and daily deaths, but also the relationship between temperature and daily hospital admissions. LÄS MER
5. Cardiovascular effects of short-term exposure to air pollution : exploring potential pathways and susceptible subgroups
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of mortality globally, with a number of contributing risk factors. Ambient air pollution represents a universally present risk factor with a substantial preventive potential. LÄS MER
