  1. 1. Rock Mechanical Consequences of Refrigeration. A Study Based on a Pilot Scale Rock Cavern

    Författare :Lars-Olof Dahlström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; temperature decrease; tensile strength; thermomechanical loading; compressive strength; Poisson s ratio; thermal contraction; rock caverns; rock mass deformation; Young s modulus;

    Sammanfattning : The deformation of a rock mass due to temperature decrease below freezing is very complex, since many factors are involved; thermal strain, strain due to stress change, stress re-distribution, ice formation and the temperature dependency of rock mechanical and thermo-physical properties. The objective of this study was to achieve a better understanding of the rock mass response to thermo-mechanical loading when storing low temperature products in rock caverns excavated in hard crystalline rock masses. 2. 2. Assessment of rock mass quality and its effects on charge ability using drill monitoring technique

    Författare :Rajib Ghosh; Håkan Schunnesson; Nuray Demirel; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Underground mining; Sublevel caving; Rock mass quality; Borehole filming; Borehole quality; Borehole stability; Borehole instability; Drill monitoring technique; Measurement While Drilling MWD ; Hydraulic in-the-hole ITH drilling; Drill system behaviour; Principal Component Analysis PCA ; Geo-mechanical model; Chargeability; Fracture zone; Shear zone; Cave-in; Cavity; Rock blasting; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och berganläggningsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : For an efficient mining operation, it is essential to have as much information as possible aboutthe ore to be excavated and the rock masses surrounding the ore. Geological information andthe content and distribution of extractable minerals, are central concerns for long term mineplanning. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Thermo-Mechanical Behaviour of Refrigerated Caverns in Hard Rock

    Författare :Rune Glamheden; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thermal deformation; rock caverns; igneous rocks; thermal properties; underground storage; low temperatures; refrigeration; thermal strain;

    Sammanfattning : For almost 4 decades, underground caverns in hard rock have been used to store liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) and refrigerated products, such as foods and chemicals. The design of such facilities has, however, been founded on relatively limited knowledge of the reaction of rock masses to cooling. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Rock mass behavior under hydropower embankment dams with focus on fracture erosion and rock mass stability

    Författare :Alexander Bondarchuk; Ignacio Escuder-Bueno; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och Berganläggningsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden there are about 190 large hydropower dams of varying age. According to the definition by the International Commission of Large Dams (ICOLD), if the height of the dam exceeds 15 m it is referred as large. Majority of these dams are of embankment type. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Artificial Ground Freezingin Clayey Soils : Laboratory and Field Studies of Deformations During Thawing at the Bothnia Line

    Författare :Teddy Johansson; Staffan Hintze; Håkan Stille; Sven Knutsson; Kauko Kujala; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Artificial ground freezing; AGF; thaw deformation; deformation; thawing; frost heaving; Bothnia Line.; Artificiell markfrysning; artificiell jord- och bergfrysning; AGF; tiningsdeformation; deformation; tining; tjälhävning; Botniabanan; Geoengineering; Geoteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Artificial ground freezing as a method to temporarily stabilize and create hydraulic sealing in urban as well as in rural areas has been used in a number of Swedish construction projects, particularly during the last decade. One problem with the freezing of soil and rock is that fine-grained clayey types of soils have showed a tendency to under certain circumstances, during the thawing process, create a pore water overpressure and to consolidate, despite a change in the external loading conditions.
