  1. 6. Ethanol-induced modulation of dopamine transmission and synaptic activity in striatal subregions - focus on inhibitory receptors

    Författare :Rhona B. C. Clarke; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dopamine; ethanol; acetaldehyde; striatum; glycine receptor; GABA A receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Alcoholism is a chronic brain disease, affecting neurocircuitries involved in reward and learning. The rewarding effects of alcohol (ethanol) are believed to result from increased dopamine levels in the nucleus accumbens (nAc) via the mesolimbic system. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Understanding Boundary Conditions for Brain Injury Prediction : Finite Element Analysis of Vulnerable Road Users

    Författare :Victor S. Alvarez; Svein Kleiven; Peter Halldin; Ciaran Simms; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Brain injuries; Vulnerable Road Users; windscreen impacts; Finite Element Analysis; pedestrian accidents; cycling accidents; pediatric neck; Applied Medical Technology; Tillämpad medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Vulnerable road users (VRUs) are overrepresented in the statistics on severe and deadly injuries in traffic accidents, most commonly involving the head. The finite element (FE) method presents the possibility to model complex interactions between the human body and vehicles in order to better understand the injury mechanisms. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Obesity and Increased Susceptibility : Role of FTO and MGAT1 Genetic Variants

    Författare :Josefin A Jacobsson; Robert Fredriksson; Helgi B Schiöth; Sadaf Farooqi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obesity; BMI; SNP; haplotype; association study; FTO; MGAT1; Pharmacology; Farmakologi; Farmakologi; Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is a complex and a highly individualized disease and the molecular mechanisms behind this disorder need to be better elucidated. Identification of genes and genetic variants that are involved provide opportunities to establish a genetic understanding of the disease. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Gestational Diabetes Mellitus- Future risk for mother and child

    Författare :Charlotta Nilsson; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gestational Diabetes Mellitus; autoantibody; GADA; ZnT8A; C-peptide; overweight; offspring;

    Sammanfattning : Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) occurs as a complication in 2% of all pregnancies in Sweden. Women with GDM have a substantial risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life, but the risk of developing type 1 diabetes is also increased. GDM increases the risk for macrosomia and caesarean delivery. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Population ecology of perch (Perca fluviatilis) in boreal lakes

    Författare :Arne Linløkken; Eva Bergman; Larry Greenberg; Anders Hargeby; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; perch; growth; size; mortality; temperature; acidification; density; roach; competition; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : I studied the effects of temperature, pH, competition and predation on Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis) in 30 lakes in Norway during 1981-2001. The study lakes were situated in two different areas in southern Norway; four lakes in Aust-Agder county in southernmost Norway were explored during 1981-1984 and 26 lakes in Hedmark county in south-eastern Norway were investigated during 1992-2001.
