16. Primary immunodeficiency in southern Sweden. Strategies for diagnosis and clinical management
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this PhD project was to gain insight into the incidence of primary immunodeficiency (PID) in southern Sweden and to optimize diagnostic and treatment measures for these patients. We estimated the occurrence rate of PID in the pediatric population of southern Sweden during a period of 4 years and described the demographic, clinical and immunological characteristics of the identified cases. 17. Regulation of lipid metabolism in rat and 3T3-L1 adipocytes; Cross-talk between Insulin, the neuro-peptides PACAP/VIP and with B1-integrins
Sammanfattning : Type 2 Diabetes is a disorder that increases globally, but mainly in the western world. One of the hallmarks of Type 2 diabetes is insulin resistance in the target tissues of insulin action (adipose tissue, liver and skeletal muscle). In addition, most patients with Type 2 diabetes are obese. LÄS MER
18. NMR STUDIES ON STRUCTURE AND DYNAMICS OF TWO-DOMAIN PROTEINS
Sammanfattning : The general objective of the present thesis work was to examine 3-dimensional structure as well as the motional properties of two different types of two-domain proteins by solution-state NMR. One of the major tasks of this thesis work was to investigate the domain orientation of these molecules by employing residual dipolar couplings (RDC) which can be used as orientational restraints for increasing the accuracy of protein structures determined by NMR. 19. Colonisation and PAH degradation by wood-rotting fungi in contaminated soil
Sammanfattning : Bioremediation of soils is considered a low-cost alternative to other remediation techniques. Its ability to remove a number of different pollutants has been demonstrated, relying mainly on the activities of indigenous soil bacteria. LÄS MER
20. Studies in beta cells and adipocytes in the context of obesity and T2D - focusing on PDE3B, OPN and SCFAs
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a heterogeneous disease characterized by altered lipid parameters and elevated glucose levels, as a direct consequence of impaired insulin signaling in target tissues and reduced insulin exocytosis from pancreatic β-cells. Obesity, which dramatically increases worldwide, is associated with insulin resistance and T2D. LÄS MER
