1. Exploring spatial and temporal resolution in energy systems modelling : a model-based analysis focused on the developing electricity systems
Sammanfattning : The energy system is undergoing a transition in many parts of the world with this transition being driven by several factors such as climate change, and economic and social development. Agenda 2030, with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has set the direction on where development should be focussed. LÄS MER
2. Life Cycle Energy Optimisation: A multidisciplinary engineering design optimisation framework for sustainable vehicle development
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores how the systemic-level environmental footprint of light-duty vehicles could be reduced through integrative design using the Life Cycle Energy Optimisation (LCEO) methodology. This methodology aims at finding a design solution that uses a minimum amount of cumulative energy demand over the different phases of the vehicle's life cycle; while complying with a set of functional constraints, thereby avoiding any sub-optimal energy demand shifts between the vehicle's different life cycle phases. 3. Modeling Width in Spatial Optimization in Raster Space
Sammanfattning : Given a grid of cells, each of which is assigned a numerical value quantifying its utility (or cost) for a certain use, a popular type of problem in geographic information science is raster-based spatial optimization. Such problems commonly seek to find a set of cells that maximizes (or minimizes) that utility (or cost) while adhering to a given set of constraints. LÄS MER
4. Reliability-based design of rock tunnel support
Sammanfattning : Since 2009, design of rock tunnels can be performed in accordance with the Eurocodes, which allows that different design methodologies are applied, such as design by calculation or design using the observational method. To account for uncertainties in design, the Eurocode states that design by calculation should primarily be performed using the partial factor method or reliability-based methods. LÄS MER
5. Image Quality Optimisation and Dose Management in CT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT
Sammanfattning : The significant increase in the use of CT, alone or combined with SPECT or PET, has raised concerns about patient radiation exposure and the consequent increased risk of malignancy later in life. The overall objective of this work was to evaluate and optimise different approaches for minimising patient radiation absorbed dose and maintaining or improving image quality in CT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT.
