1. Studies of nucleotide receptors-induced calcium response in glomerular mesangial cells and afferent arterioles
Sammanfattning : It is known that intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) changes in rat glomerular mesangial cells (GMC) and rabbit afferent arterioles (AA) in response to extracellular nucleotides. We studied the nucleotide-induced calcium response in cultured GMC and AA. LÄS MER
2. Studies of ligand- and temperature-gated ion channels using microfluidic methods
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the studies of the GABAA receptor, a ligand-gated ion channel, and the ligand- and temperature-gated ion channel TRPV1. The desensitization behavior of both of these proteins has been studied for different conditions, using a microfluidic device for superfusion. LÄS MER
3. Psycho-physiological reactions to violent video gaming : Experimental studies of heart rate variability, cortisol, sleep and emotional reactions in teenage boys
Sammanfattning : Playing violent video games may provoke aggression. Psycho-physiological methods may provide knowledge about the underlying psychological processes. Most previous studies have been performed in laboratory settings at daytime with adults. LÄS MER
4. The Role of Membrane Trafficking in G Protein-Coupled Receptor Regulation
Sammanfattning : Movements of a receptor in the plasma membrane and within the cell influence receptor function and physiology. I have investigated the role of such movements, generally known as membrane trafficking, in G protein-coupled receptor regulation. LÄS MER
5. Regulatory Functions of the Juxtaglomerular Apparatus
Sammanfattning : The tubuloglomerular feedback mechanism is an important regulator in the juxtaglomerular apparatus and it detects flow dependent alterations in luminal NaCl concentration ([NaCl]) at the macula densa (MD) cell site via a Na+-K+-2Cl cotransporter. Signals are sent by the MD to adjust the afferent arteriole tone and altering release of renin. LÄS MER
