  1. 1. A Critical Review of the Observational Method

    Författare :Johan Spross; Stefan Larsson; Fredrik Johansson; Joakim Jeppsson; Lars Rosén; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rock mechanics; observational method; Eurocode 7; reliability analysis; dam safety; tunnelling; system reliability; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Building a sustainable structure in soil or rock that satisfies all predefined technical requirements implies choosing a rational and effective construction method. An important aspect is how the performance of the structure is verified. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Toward a reliability framework for the observational method

    Författare :Johan Spross; Stefan Larsson; Fredrik Johansson; Rasmus Müller; John Harrison; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rock engineering; observational method; Eurocode 7; structural safety; reliability analysis; dam safety; Bergmekanik; observationsmetoden; Eurokod 7; sannolikhetsbaserad dimensionering; dammsäkerhet; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Constructing sustainable structures in rock that satisfy all predefined technical specifications requires rational and effective construction methods. When the geotechnical behaviour is hard to predict, the European design code, Eurocode 7, suggests application of the observational method to verify that the performance is acceptable. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On reliability-based design of rock tunnel support

    Författare :William Bjureland; Stefan Larsson; Fredrik Johansson; Johan Spross; Lars Rosén; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rock engineering; reliability-based design; Eurocode 7; observational method; tunnel engineering; Bergmekanik; sannolikhetsbaserad dimensionering; Eurokod 7; observationsmetoden; tunnelbyggnation.; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Tunneling involves large uncertainties. Since 2009, design of rock tunnels in European countries should be performed in accordance with the Eurocodes. The main principle in the Eurocodes is that it must be shown in all design situations that no relevant limit state is exceeded. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Reliability-based design of rock tunnel support

    Författare :William Bjureland; Fredrik Johansson; Stefan Larsson; Johan Spross; Lars Rosén; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rock engineering; reliability-based design; Eurocode 7; observational method; tunnel engineering; Bergmekanik; sannolikhetsbaserad dimensionering; Eurokod 7; observationsmetoden; tunnelbyggnad; Jord- och bergmekanik; Soil and Rock Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : Since 2009, design of rock tunnels can be performed in accordance with the Eurocodes, which allows that different design methodologies are applied, such as design by calculation or design using the observational method. To account for uncertainties in design, the Eurocode states that design by calculation should primarily be performed using the partial factor method or reliability-based methods. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Modeling aspects of reliability-based design of lined rock caverns

    Författare :Davi Rodrigues Damasceno; Fredrik Johansson; Johan Spross; Rafael Jimenez; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lined rock cavern; reliability-based design; analytical modeling; finite element modeling; underground gas storage; Inklädda bergrum; tillförlitlighetsbaserad design; analytisk modellering; finita elementmodellering; underjordisk gaslagring; Soil and Rock Mechanics; Jord- och bergmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : The storage of large quantities of hydrogen gas in underground lined rock caverns (LRCs) could contribute to an efficient supply of fossil-free energy. The consequences of failure of such storage can be catastrophic, so representative predictive models and a small probability of failure are needed for the LRC design. LÄS MER
