  1. 11. Genetic and Metabolic Markers for the Development of Diabetes after Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

    Författare :Magnus Ekelund; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oral glucose tolerance tests; Genetics; Autoimmunity; Insulin sensitivity; Gestational diabetes mellitus; Insulin secretion; HbA1c; Fasting glucose; FTO-gene; Postpartum diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this work were to determine the prevalence of postpartum diabetes among women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in a prospective study 5 years postpartum; to characterize these women according to insulin secretion, insulin sensitivity, autoimmunity and genetics; and to identify possible markers and predictors for the development of manifest diabetes. The subjects were recruited through a regional screening programme in which oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTTs) are routinely offered to all pregnant women. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Childhood Obesity and Islet Function

    Författare :Johan Staaf; Peter Bergsten; Anders Forslund; Hindrik Mulder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :type 2 diabetes mellitus; Uppsala Longitudinal Study of Childhood Obesity; palmitate; glucose-stimulated insulin secretion; hyperinsulinemia; hyperglucagonemia; GLP-1; glicentin; magnetic resonance imaging; metabolic syndrome; oral glucose tolerance test; centroid; Pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of childhood obesity and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) has increased during recent decades. T2DM is accompanied with functional changes in the islets of Langerhans, which can be identified early in the pathogenesis. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Predictors of Dementia : Insulin, Fatty Acids and Vascular Risk Factors

    Författare :Elina Rönnemaa; Lena Kilander; Lars Lannfelt; Björn Zethelius; Laura Fratiglioni; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dementia; Alzheimer’s disease; vascular dementia; insulin secretion; diabetes; fatty acids; epidemiology; vascular risk factors; Geriatrics; Geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Identification of modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is crucial in order to diminish suffering from this devastating disease. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if different aspects of glucose metabolism, insulin, fatty-acid composition or other vascular risk factors predict the future development of AD and dementia. 4. 14. Risk faktors for fracture in middle-aged men and women

    Författare :Anna H Holmberg; Ortopedi - klinisk och molekylär osteoporosforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; risk factors; women; men; middle age; low-energy fracture; diabetes; mental health; hyperglycaemia; Public health; Folkhälsa; epidemiology; Prospective cohort study; epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The number of fractures is increasing worldwide, and fractures frequently cause long-term disability, impaired quality of life and sometimes death. The Malmö Preventive Project, a population-based, prospective study, consisting of 22 444 men, mean age 44 and 10 902 women, mean age 50 years, provides data for evaluation of common public health conditions, such as fracture and diabetes. 5. 15. Aspects of Gestational Diabetes : Screening System, Maternal and Fetal Complications

    Författare :Ingrid Östlund; Peter Damm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Gestational diabetes; screening; preeclampsia; random B-glucose; impaired glucose tolerance; macrosomia; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The appropriateness of universal screening for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has been strongly questioned, since it does not satisfy ethical principles for screening. The aims of these studies were to determine the prevalence of GDM, expressed in terms of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and diabetes mellitus (DM), to evaluate different screening models using traditional anamnestic risk factors and repeated random B-glucose, to determine whether GDM increases risks for maternal complications such as preeclampsia, and to determine whether IGT during pregnancy, if left untreated, is associated with increased maternal or neonatal morbidity.
