41. Exploring the tissue-specific nature of the Wnt cell signaling system : The complex world of cell communication and the search for the Achilles heel of cancer
Sammanfattning : The Wnt signaling pathway is a biological mechanism for cell-cell communication found across all species of the animal kingdom. This pathway plays a major role in virtually all stages of embryonic development, and it governs central aspects of stem cell biology, regeneration, and tissue homeostasis. LÄS MER
42. Macrophages and neutrophils in tissue homeostasis and recovery from ischemic injury
Sammanfattning : Neutrophils and macrophages have functions beyond protection against pathogens. The overall aim of the work presented in this thesis was to identify novel tasks for these innate immune cells in maintaining homeostasis. LÄS MER
43. Tissue remodelling in pulmonary fibrosis linked to 5-HT2 receptor activation
Sammanfattning : After an injury, an immediate reparative response is triggered to replace the damaged tissue, however, in fibrosis, cells remain active despite wound resolution causing a steady build-up of fibrotic tissue. In pulmonary fibrosis, there is a constant regeneration and remodelling of lung tissue where the thin architecture of alveoli become thickened, hampering efficient diffusion of oxygen, as seen in diseases like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). 44. Chromosomal Instability and Genomic Amplification in Bone and Soft Tissue Tumours
Sammanfattning : Acquired genetic abnormalities are found in all types of malignant tumours and may contribute to neoplastic processes by altering protein structure or dosage. Many bone and soft tissue tumours (BSTT) are characterised by complex patterns of chromosome changes, including extensive intratumour heterogeneity and amplification of DNA sequences. LÄS MER
45. Tissue remodelling proteases as prognostic factors in colon and rectal cancer
Sammanfattning : Background: Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in Sweden and the main treatment is surgery. The TNM classification is the principal staging tool, although insufficient in identifying all patients with poor survival. LÄS MER
