31. Matrix metalloproteinase-26 (MMP-26) and Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-4 (TIMP-4) in normal, hyperplastic, and malignant endometrium
Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was to study matrix metalloproteinase-26 (MMP-26) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-4 (TIMP-4) in normal, hyperplastic, and malignant endometrium. Most importantnly, both these molecules may be ivolved in the implantation process. Trophoblast tissue from human as well as mouse embryos produces pro-MMP-9. LÄS MER
32. Tracing local hyaluronan after ocular anterior segment trauma
Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan has been found in the eye in varying amounts and at different sites. It is involved in physiological and pathological processes, though many aspects of its bio-logi-cal functions are still unclear. We have studied the role of iris tissue in hyal-uro-nan production in the anterior segment of the eye, and its changes after trauma. LÄS MER
33. Metabolic effects of interleukin-6
Sammanfattning : The levels of the cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the circulation are positively correlated with indices of obesity and metabolic disturbances. Paradoxically, plasma IL-6 levels increase markedly during prolonged and strenuous exercise, mainly due to increased production and release from working skeletal muscle. LÄS MER
34. Interactions between Malignant Keratinocytes and Fibroblasts : Studies in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Sammanfattning : Carcinoma growth requires a supportive tumor stroma. The concept of reciprocal interactions between tumor and stromal cells has become widely acknowledged and the connective tissue activation seen in the malignant process has been likened to that of a healing wound. LÄS MER
35. Systemic inflammatory activation during cardiac Surgery. Influence of cardiopulmonary bypass management and patient factors
Sammanfattning : Cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass is accompanied by a prominent systemic inflammatory and hemostatic activation, which may contribute to postoperative complications. Aims: To investigate if selection of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) system and management of cardiotomy suction (CTS) and mediastinal shed blood (MSB) affect systemic inflammatory response. LÄS MER
